Under the direct supervision of the Director of Food Service, the Cafe Team Member is responsible for for serving Cafe guests as well as food preparation at the Cafe in the Kikaskihtanaw Center for Women and Families. This position will also be responsible for cleaning the kitchen and additional prep and duties as required.
Under the direct supervision of the Cafe Manager, the Kitchen Support Team Member plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the Encore Cafe kitchen at the kikaskihtanaw Centre for Women and Families. This position is primarily responsible for dishwashing and sanitation but will also assist with food preparation, restocking, and other back-of-house duties as required to ensure smooth cafe operations.
Responsibilities:
Operate commercial dishwasher and hand-wash items as needed, ensuring dishes, glassware, utensils, and cookware are cleaned and sanitized
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe dishwashing and kitchen area throughout shift and during close
Remove garbage, recycling, and compost as necessary, including daily disposal following health and safety standards
Support kitchen staff by assisting with basic food preparation (e.g., chopping, portioning, labeling, packaging)
Restock clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen supplies in their proper locations
Monitor and replenish prep, cleaning, and dishwashing supplies as needed
Assist in receiving and storing food deliveries, ensuring proper rotation and labeling
Perform routine cleaning tasks to maintain a sanitary kitchen environment (sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, equipment cleaning)
Follow SHA Food Safe and organizational standards for hygiene, sanitation, and safety
Perform additional kitchen and cleaning duties as assigned by the Cafe Leadership Team
Qualifications:
Experience in a kitchen or food service setting is an asset, but not required
Willingness to learn and follow safe food handling and sanitation practices
Strong work ethic with ability to work efficiently and maintain pace during busy service periods
Reliable, flexible, and able to adapt to changing tasks and priorities
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/carry up to 50 lbs
Current Food Safe Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to provide a criminal record check
