The Opportunity
McElhanney is looking for a Junior or Intermediate Water Resources Engineer to join our growing team in Vancouver, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional looking to build hands-on experience in the field of water resources engineering within a collaborative team that is invested in your growth and success.
In this role, you will support senior engineers on a wide range of hydrotechnical and civil infrastructure projects. You'll be involved in field work, data analysis, modeling, design development, and report preparation, with opportunities to grow your technical skills and contribute meaningfully to real-world projects across British Columbia. From our most junior recruits to senior management, we are partners in solving our clients' challenges while making high impact on our local communities.
What You'll Do
Support engineering assessments and designs for stormwater conveyance networks, natural watercourses, floodplain and flood hazard mapping, environmental hydraulics and habitat enhancement, and similar disciplines.
Prepare technical drawings, design reports, calculations, and other documentation under the supervision of senior engineers.
Participate in field work including site inspections, and construction observation to support design and data collection.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams on civil infrastructure and environmental projects throughout British Columbia.
Provide project support by taking on project management tasks and coordination activities.
Assist with regulatory submissions, permitting documentation, and engagement materials for municipal, provincial, and federal approvals.
What You'll Bring
Education in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering, with a focus on hydrotechnical or water-related disciplines; 1-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a consulting environment
Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in British Columbia.
Foundational experience in water-sector analysis and modeling, gained through academic projects, internships, or early career roles. Previous consulting experience is preferred.
Exposure to infrastructure design and construction processes, with a desire to build experience in these areas.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical documents such as reports, memos, and presentation materials.
Demonstrated ability to support project tasks effectively, meet deadlines, and contribute to project team goals.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $95,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
