Job Description


As a Junior/Intermediate Process Engineer you will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers on a wide variety of capital and expense projects at our Home Office in Saint John, NB. This will be in support of our safety, efficiency, reliability, production, and energy transition goals. Your goal will be to engage with operating area teams and with process safety management team stakeholders as you investigate, develop design, and execute capital and expense projects, and optimize the process units within our operations. Direct, review and approve their work and deliverables.Support operational troubleshooting and process optimization, as required.Perform quality management and routine procedure reviews; develop process improvements related to capital and expense projects.Keep cross-functional leaders informed of project progress and status updates.Monitor and design key best practices to improve refinery and product and terminal operations.Remain current on emerging refining technologies.Your Skills:Good understanding of refinery operations as related to capital project work.Open to receiving coaching and mentoring at junior and intermediate levels.Understanding of the basic economic drivers of oil refining.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in coordinating, leading, and directing other Engineering Services employees and project members. Ability to make clear, effective presentations to communicate recommendations to stakeholders.Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision / direction and apply sound engineering judgement on technical matters.Attention to schedule and cost, and timely decision making.You enjoy figuring out the root of problems and designing better processes and procedures to minimize or eliminate them.Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.Experience representing the interests of refinery owner/operators in capital / expense project development would be an asset.Able to work in the field, in year-round weather conditions, able to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, etc. and able to lift up to 20lbs. You must be comfortable with high elevation climbing, working at heights, and in enclosed spaces. You must be able to wear full PPE as required by safety standards.Your Experience:University degree in Chemical Engineering with EIT or P.Eng. designation (or immediate eligibility) in New Brunswick is required.2+ years of engineering experience, preferably in downstream oil and gas industry.Experience in heat exchanger modelling (EDR / HTRI) and hydraulic software (AFT Fathom / AFT Arrow or similar) is an asset.Experience with AspenHYSYS (or similar) along with PSV and Vessel software is an asset.Experience with participation in PHA and LOPA Reviews is required.#LI-HybridIrving Oil is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment.
