The Office of the Registrar at the University of Calgary is seeking a part-time Junior Web Specialist to join our Marketing and Communications team. This team provides marketing and communications support across the student lifecycle from recruitment of prospective students to graduation. This is an exciting opportunity to grow web skills in a supportive environment and contribute to high-impact work. This is a part-time recurring role with a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the Junior Web Specialist will be responsible for supporting the technical maintenance of websites for the Office of the Registrar. This role assists the Senior Web Specialist and Developer in ensuring an excellent user experience for website visitors. The incumbent will thrive in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with various colleagues across the Office of the Registrar.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Junior Web Specialist will play a key role in ensuring the optimal performance, accuracy, and continuous improvement of the Office of the Registrar's websites by maintaining up-to-date content, analyzing user data, resolving technical issues, and adhering to brand and web standards. Additionally, the role involves supporting the website redevelopment process and staying informed about the latest web trends and technologies.
The person in this role will be at ease collaborating with other Marketing and Communications team members to evolve ideas and explore web solutions. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. They are proactive, organized and thorough.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
(job functions include but are not limited to):
Maintain and update website content, ensuring everything is up-to-date and functioning correctly.
Analyze Google Analytics data and suggest site improvements.
Verify web content accuracy, check for bugs and broken links, and resolve issues.
Provide general web support during the redevelopment of the Office of the Registrar websites.
Ensure adherence to brand guidelines, web standards and established workflows.
Stay updated on web trends, technologies and tools.
Qualifications / Requirements:
1-3 years of customer service experience directly related to website support.
Diploma or bachelor's degree in web design, information technology, computer science or a related field.
Knowledge of web design principles and content management systems like Drupal and WordPress.
Comfortable working in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator to edit or modify images.
Understanding of web copywriting and search engine optimization (SEO) techniques.
Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.
Experience with UX design practices like journey mapping, wireframing, and UX research is a plus.
Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members.
Capability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Willingness to learn new web trends and technologies.
Ability to identify web challenges and propose creative solutions.
Attention to detail and a high level of quality control.
Organized and process-oriented, with a team-first approach and mentality.
Experience in a large, complex organization focused on efficient web service is a plus.
