Supervises: Line Cooks, Prep Cooks, Dishwashers
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Junior Sous Chef to join our culinary team at Mill Run's 45 Grille. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven cook ready to step into a leadership role, supporting the Executive Chef and Senior Sous Chef in the daily kitchen operations and execution of events.
As a Junior Sous Chef, you will play an active role in menu development, daily kitchen management, and ensuring a high standard of food quality and kitchen efficiency. You'll have the opportunity to contribute creatively while developing your leadership skills in a collaborative and professional environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Executive Chef, General Manager and Sr. Sous Chef the Junior Sous Chef will:
Support day-to-day kitchen operations including prep, service, and closing duties.
Assist with menu development, daily features, and creative specials.
Maintain a clean, well-organized, and efficiently run kitchen.
Lead by example on the line and during prep; ensure proper preparation and presentation of all menu items.
Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Senior Sous Chef on planning for events, banquets, and seasonal menus.
Monitor and report any equipment issues or maintenance needs.
Promote and uphold food safety, cleanliness, and health code standards.
Guide and support hourly kitchen staff, offering coaching and feedback to improve performance and efficiency.
Take ownership of side work tasks and ensure that kitchen stations and storage areas are clean and well maintained.
Contribute ideas for improving kitchen workflow, cost control, and overall guest satisfaction.
What We're Looking For:
2+ years of line or prep cook experience in a professional kitchen (supervisory experience a plus)
Passion for culinary arts and a desire to grow into a leadership role
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and stay calm under pressure
A proactive attitude with a keen eye for detail and quality
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Food Handler's certification or willingness to obtain one
