AECOM is actively seeking a Social impact Specialist that is creative, and highly motivated for immediate employment to support infrastructure projects across Canada. Candidates with strong qualitative and quantitative social science analysis experience, socio-economic impact assessment, strategic planning, and strong stakeholder and Indigenous Community engagement skills are of particular interest. This position will be part of the Impact Assessment and Permitting team supporting projects and collaborating with teams across Ontario and the rest of Canada.

Responsibilities:

The responsibility of this position includes, but are not limited to:

  • Support the development of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and workplans for socio-economic and social impact studies
  • Development and delivery of Indigenous Community engagement plans to support infrastructure planning and design projects.
  • Support Indigenous engagement and consultation and public participation activities including meeting and event planning, coordination, facilitation, and logistics.
  • Support the development and execution of social performance and ESG strategies across Canada.
  • Conduct socio-economic baseline studies and analysis - largely related environmental assessment and permitting applications, environmental screenings, environmental baseline and monitoring programs, and/or peer reviews.
  • Prepare technical documents, reports, and presentations as required.
  • Conduct field studies, surveys, and interviews with community and regional stakeholders as part of establishing socio-economic assessment baselines and social environment assessments.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and consultants to guide planning and design processes.
  • Liaise with clients, the public, Indigenous groups, and regulators, as required.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor\'s in Economics, Sociology, Community / Regional Planning, Human Geography, Business, or related social or environmental sciences discipline.
  • 2+ years of relevant consulting experience in socio-environmental / socio-economic impact assessment, Indigenous engagement or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and building relationships with Indigenous Communities in Ontario and / or across Canada
  • Knowledge of the provincial environmental assessment process, the federal Impact Assessment Act 2019 as well as other federal and provincial laws and regulations related to stakeholder engagement, Indigenous consultation, and socio-environmental impact assessment.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), research and data analysis, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience with proposal writing and ability to undertake business development activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work well with people.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload and manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Class G driver\'s license.
  • Willingness to travel to local and remote communities to undertake field work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master\'s degree preferred in Human Geography, Economics, Sociology, Community/Regional Planning, or related social sciences discipline.
  • Experience and/or training in Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) considered an asset.
  • Understanding of infrastructure planning, design and implementation processes.
  • Rural, remote, and northern experience considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with statistical and/or spatial analysis tools.
  • Full or Provisional membership in a professional body.
  • Knowledge of international best practices in social impact assessment, IFC and World Bank standards.
  • Experience working with economic modelling and other related software.
  • Facilitation experience.
  • Bilingual (English and French) an asset.
