The Accessibility Directorate is a dynamic and committed team that is leading and coordinating Nova Scotia\xe2\x80\x99s work to become an accessible province by 2030. We work together with Nova Scotians with disabilities, community and disability organizations, businesses, municipalities, post-secondary institutions and other partners to support the cultural shift needed to implement the Accessibility Act and address disability-related issues across government.

About Our Opportunity

As a Junior Policy Analyst, you will support the Accessibility Directorate policy team on significant policy initiatives to advance the goals of the Accessibility Act. This includes contributing to policy research, analysis, development and advice on accessibility standards and a range of accessibility and disability issues in Nova Scotia.

Primary Accountabilities

Reporting to the Director, Policy and Standards, you will support the Accessibility Directorate policy team as you:

  • Conduct research and analysis to support policy development and advice in standard areas and other disability and accessibility priorities
  • Support the preparation of briefing materials, options papers, and responses to requests for information
  • Collect, analyze and synthesize information from public sector partners, including support for public consultation
  • Liaise with partners within government, and with public sector bodies, community organizations and others on accessibility and disability priorities
  • Contribute to the development of awareness and capacity building tools and initiatives related to accessibility standards
Qualifications and Experience

As the successful candidate you will have completed a post secondary program in a related field within the past 3 years.

You have:
  • Knowledge of policy tools and policy development process
  • Experience conducting policy research and analysing and synthesizing information
  • Ability to develop productive, collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and contribute to multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, coordinating, tracking and managing multiple activities
  • The ability to work independently, carry out work within tight timelines, and manage competing priorities
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Understanding of diversity, accessibility and disability issues
  • Experience using the Microsoft software suite, such as Outlook, Office, PowerPoint and Teams
  • Fluency in French (oral and/or written) would be considered an asset

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position, with an anticipated employment end date of September 30, 2024. The position is based in Halifax. We welcome applications from outside of the Halifax Regional Municipality, as partial remote work may be considered.

Pay Grade: PR 06

Salary Range: $1,915.37 - $2,348.72 Bi-Weekly
