Fernie Alpine Resort is looking to fill the position of Junior Operator (Water and Wastewater Utilities). This is a full-time, year-round position. Reporting to the Utilities Manager and the Lead Operator, the ideal candidate is career-oriented and has an excellent work ethic and proven ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment. This job includes all aspects of operation and process control of our wastewater and water treatment facilities, including wastewater collection and water distribution. We are a small crew, so duties also include basic housekeeping and snow removal as required.

Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Inc. is looking to fill the position of Junior Operator (Water and Wastewater Utilities) at Fernie Alpine Resort. This is a full-time, year-round position.
Reporting to the Utilities Manager and the Lead Operator, the ideal candidate is career-oriented and has an excellent work ethic and proven ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment. This job includes all aspects of operation and process control of our wastewater and water treatment facilities, including wastewater collection and water distribution. We are a small crew, so duties also include basic housekeeping and snow removal as required.
Utility Operations is considered a technical trade. The successful candidate will be required to write an Operator-in-training exam after three months of experience, with the intent of becoming a fully certified operator. We will provide all the on-the-job training you need, but mechanical aptitude and ability to lift and handle heavy objects are compulsory.
You will:

  • Operate the dewatering centrifuge as well as other programmable machinery and pumps.
  • Manage treatment plant processes, including monitoring, control, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct simple lab tests and perform routine checks of on-hill facilities.
  • Maintain general housekeeping and complete snow-shoveling tasks as required.
  • Report any non-compliance, malfunctions, or operational challenges immediately.
  • Adhere to all policies, rules, and protocols outlined in the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Employee Handbook.
  • Follow all safe work procedures included in the Safety Management Program.
  • Comply with all expectations of the Injury Management and Return-to-Work Programs.
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned and applicable.
You have:
  • The ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Wastewater or water treatment plant experience (an asset).
  • A valid driver's license.
