The Position:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Engineer/Specialist to join our Engineering team. This position offers exposure to a wide range of mechanical and electrical engineering responsibilities, product design, testing, quality control, and customer integration. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, adaptable, and ready to contribute to both technical and collaborative projects. Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer.
Gatekeeper office is located in Abbotsford BC. While there will be some opportunity for the successful candidate to work remotely most of the time will be "in office"
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare shop mechanical production drawings and design mechanical parts (brackets, DVR/camera mounts, enclosures).
Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance principles to safeguard against tolerance stacking.
Produce sheet metal designs and communicate with fabrication shops to obtain pricing and lead times.
Design and draw cable diagrams, wiring schematics, and block wiring diagrams.
Create camera layouts for vehicles (trains, buses, streetcars, etc.) to support sales teams.
Render product designs for marketing purposes.
Conduct quality control checks of products.
Troubleshoot defective products and mechanical/electrical issues.
Test new cameras for functionality and performance.
Operate specialized equipment such as temperature chambers, vibration tables, 3D printers, and 3D scanners.
Support cost projections, estimating, and arranging time projections.
Liaise with OEM manufacturers, agencies, and customers for issue resolution.
Work with sales teams to answer technical questions and resolve product-related issues.
Assist the Purchasing Department with stocking requirements and vendor communications.
Participate in client and internal meetings, providing technical input as required.
Research and procure new products (cameras, monitors, etc.) for evaluation.
Assist in customer integration activities to ensure proper equipment placement and functionality.

Education and Qualifications / Experience:
Completion of Mechanical Engineering Technology Program
Candidates should be competent with the use of SolidWorks & SolidWorks Visualize, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Acrobat Reader), OneDrive, OwnCloud. Legally able to travel to the USA and within Canada (valid passport required) and possess a valid drivers license.
Must haves include:
Strong understanding of mechanical design, electrical diagrams, and standards (IEEE, IEC, etc.).
Ability to create accurate time and cost projections.
Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical systems.
Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
Detail-oriented with strong quality control standards.
Agile and physically capable of gathering dimensions in confined or awkward spaces (e.g., on vehicles).
Non-technical Competencies:
Ideally you will have strong leadership, interpersonal and written communication skills, be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision and to meet tight deadlines. Key to success in this role will be the ability to think analytically and problem solve effectively, put the customer's needs first and communicate respectfully using patience and empathy. Ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Salary range:
$55,000.00 to $65,000.00 per year
