Job Summary
The ideal candidate will be a member of the Law Society of Alberta (or other Canadian jurisdiction) with a business mind-set. The role requires court attendance and the right candidate will be comfortable with litigation work. While previous family law experience would be desired, training and mentorship will be provided.
Duties
Draft and prepare cohabitation agreements, prenuptial agreements, post nuptial agreements
Communicate and collaborate with external stakeholders including opposing counsel
Conduct legal research
Attend family docket court, morning chambers, special chambers where required
Ethically and professionally guide clients providing legal advice that complies with relevant laws
Direct and work effectively with support staff in a healthy team enivronment
Maintain organized records of all legal documents and correspondence
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Law or JD
Active membership in the Law Society of Alberta or eligible to immediately become an active member
Strong research skills with the ability to analyze complex legal issues effectively
Excellent negotiation skills and command of the English language to advocate for clients' interests
Proficient writing skills for clear and concise legal drafting
Attention to detail and above average organizational abilities to manage multiple cases simultaneously
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also demonstrating independence when necessary
Previous experience in Family Law an asset, but not required
