Your Opportunity
Our Environmental Services group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in atmospheric sciences, acoustics and vibration, marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators.
Stantec\'s Environmental Services Practice is currently seeking a full-time position for a junior Hazard and Risk Assessment Specialist. This opportunity is in our Calgary\'s 25th Street office.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct hazard identification for facilities/processes in Canada with focus in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
Complete hazard and risk assessments, including hazardous source characterization, consequence modelling, reporting, and mitigation recommendations. Consequence modelling includes dispersion, fire jet/fireball/pool fire, vapour cloud explosion and vessel ruptures.
Assist other team members in the preparation of reports, proposals, marketing materials, and/or technical papers.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication.
Strong team player and ability to manage multiple projects.
A results-oriented individual with the ability to interpret and effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Education and Experience
Post-secondary education completed in mechanical or chemical engineering.
Strong analytical skills and experience with hazard and risk assessment modelling software (i.e., SLAB, PHAST) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is an asset.
Knowledge in industrial process and hazard and risk assessment.
Understanding of provincial and federal regulatory requirements and guidelines.
Strong programming skills is an asset.
