Job Summary
The Junior Grinder / Polisher will be responsible for
cylindrical grinding and polishing customer and WHC components to exact specifications
. This role is ideal for someone eager to learn, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow within a supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Train with senior staff to learn precision grinding and polishing methods.
Grind external or internal cylindrical and tapered surfaces.
Belt polish ground surfaces to meet customer and internal finish requirements.
Remove metal by the application of abrasives, bonded to form a rotating wheel.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial indicators, and gauges.
Inspect completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine machining methods.
Select appropriate machining tools or grinding wheels.
Inspect machine tools for damage and grinding wheels for cracks.
Mount, balance, and dress grinding wheels.
Align and secure fixtures, tools, and materials onto machines.
Operate magnets, centers, 4-jaw chucks, and lathes.
Transfer pieces using lifts, cranes, and hoists.
Apply protective packaging to finished surfaces.
Maintain workspace, equipment, and tools; diagnose machine malfunctions.
Collaborate with supervisors and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
Follow all safety protocols and utilize proper PPE.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 1 year of precision grinding, machining, or polishing experience (or equivalent)
Willingness to work shifts (day/evenings/weekends)
Ability to use micrometers and read blueprints/drawings
Assets:
Journeyman Machinist Certification and Red Seal
Quality control experience
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive hourly wage based on experience and in the range of $25 - $29 per hour
