Junior Field Technician - Restoration

Aski Reclamation LP an indigenous-owned environmental consulting company which integrates First Nations' knowledge with science, to deliver solutions to our clients and pave the way for industry best practices in Restoration, Restoration, and Environmental Services.

Aski Reclamation LP is looking to employ a Junior Restoration Technician for 6 months starting in mid-April. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is willing to learn, gets along with others, loves plants, nature, working outdoors, and making a positive impact on the environment.

This position may be assigned to various projects for additional support or enhanced learning opportunities. The role is intended to be flexible and provide exposure to Junior level positions within our environmental consulting company and ideally peak a ones' interest in continuing their career in the restoration sector.

Work Environment

The Restoration Technician works in various settings, including remote forest service roads in the areas surrounding the Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge, BC areas as well as at the Aski office in Moberly Lake, BC. During field work you will be required to drive 4WD trucks, pull a trailer, drive all-terrain vehicles (e.g., ATVs, UTVs), hike and collect site data. These duties require a high level of physical fitness and the capacity to work safely and responsibly. The ability to work for prolonged periods in remote settings and potentially adverse weather conditions is a key requirement for this job.

Major Duties

Field Technician

Conduct site assessments and input data into a tablet Operate 4W4 truck with trailer and ATV on Forest Service Roads Input field data?and use mapping software (e.g., Google Earth, QGIS) Follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and InReach check in times when working in the field Participate in daily safety tailgate meetings Navigate to remote sites using maps and software Submit daily field reports and expenses, as required
Restoration Focused

Conduct Planting Quality Inspections on restored roads Assist with bird nest sweeps with the Project Biologist Assist with subcontractor supervision of mechanical site preparation Monitor environmental features (stream crossings and bird nests) during site preparation activities Work collaboratively with field leads and other team members Other duties may include, but are not limited to: native seed collection, invasive weed assessment and monitoring, and reclamation monitoring

Requirements

Diploma or Undergraduate degree in forestry, environmental sciences, restoration or related field Previous experience (0.5-1 years) with environmental and field data collection (e.g., plant identification, soil and landscape characteristics, planting quality inspections, silviculture surveys, wildlife/nest surveys, stream classification) Class 5 Driver's License with a clean abstract Physically fit and capable of hiking on uneven ground in remote areas Positive attitude, organized and keen to learn and work with others Willingness to work in remote locations ATV experience Willingness to obtain the following Certifications: OFA Level 1 H2S Alive ATV Safety Training Wildlife/Bear Awareness
Compensation and Hours

This role is a full-time six-month position. Working hours will vary seasonally. It is expected that workdays in the spring/summer/fall will be 10-12 hours per field day and up to 60 hours per week or schedule shifts of two weeks on and one week off. If working in the office, hours will be up to 8 hours per day and 30-40 hours per week. Compensation for this position is expected to range from $25.00 to $33.00 per hour, dependent on experience and qualifications of successful candidate.
