Ballard has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, is capable of working with limited direction, and will contribute to the development of Ballard\'s fuel cell system products.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, packaging, and verification of electrical systems for fuel cell engines
  • Perform electronic circuit testing, analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Generate Altium PCB layout designs (Schematics, Gerber files, drill drawings, PCB assembly drawings, etc.)
  • Support the design of HV and LV wire harnesses compliant with relevant standards
  • Select and source electrical components (sensors, controllers, converters/inverters, PCBA\'s, contactors, transformers, etc.) from given requirements
  • Verify designs through analysis and testing
  • Troubleshooting of existing electrical components or systems
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
  • Prepare and/or review technical drawings
Requirements:
  • Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
  • 1-3 years experience in an electrical engineering field
  • Experience in PCB design and Altium software
  • Experience designing, drawing, and analyzing low-voltage analog & digital circuits
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations
  • Troubleshooting skills with DMM and oscilloscope
  • Basic electrical prototyping skills required including bread-boarding, soldering through-hole and surface-mount components
  • Basic skill with mechanical prototyping tools such as drills, grinders, wrenches
  • Demonstrated capability for critical thinking
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as good listening skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment
Additional Consideration:
  • Knowledge of fuel cell technology
  • Experience in automotive or mobile equipment design
  • Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Experience with PLCs or other Industrial controllers
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software
  • Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices
  • Experience with microcontroller programming or other embed control devices
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and/or National Electrical Code or European IEC standards
  • Experience with automation and machine communication
