Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management for us all to benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province.About Our OpportunityAs the Junior Biologist you will be responsible for providing technical support to the Western Region Integrated Resource Management (IRM) team and area/district staff under the guidance and direction of the Regional Resource Manager. The Western Region includes the seven western counties of Nova Scotia; Lunenburg, Kings, Queens, Shelburne, Yarmouth, Digby and Annapolis.Primary AccountabilitiesSome of the primary accountabilities of the role include:

  • Reviewing proposals for Crown land leases, licenses, letters of authority, environmental assessments and preparing information/data for IRM reviews.
  • Supporting field surveys, inventories, and analytical services using established methods, including field evaluation and feedback for future improvements and modifications.
  • Organizing and analyzing information and data from field, literature, or expert surveys to inform program management decisions. Supporting the design, evaluation and modification of information technology support systems related to this work.
  • Assisting with efficient project delivery through the organization and coordination of time and resource allocation.
  • Supporting the IRM review process, as well as other staff, particularly Senior IRM biologists and technicians, in the interpretation and conduct of field surveys and data collection.
As the Junior Biologist you will work under the general diction of the Regional Resource Manager, Regional Services Branch.Qualifications and ExperienceThis may be the right opportunity for you if you have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.As the ideal candidate you must be able to:
  • Provide information and guidance on a wide variety of projects reviewed through the IRM process.
  • Develop and carry out practical but robust field surveys, inventory, and monitoring programs.
  • Work with diverse data and other information.
  • Accept and carry out responsibilities with minimum level of supervision.
  • Exercise a high degree of independent judgement, decision making and initiative.
