The Role: Junior Accountant




We are seeking a Junior Accountant who is eager to make an impact and contribute to accurate financial reporting, process improvements, and key financial functions. This role requires a professional with a CPA designation and experience in vendor management, as well as in full-cycle accounting or bookkeeping. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively cross-functionally across the College. In this role, the Junior Accountant will assist with payroll preparation for the College, use accounting software to support financial reconciliations and reporting, and collaborate with Human Resources on benefits and pension administration.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:



What you will be doing in the role:



Manage vendor records and contracts, and resolve any discrepancies. Assist with processing and reconciling accounting activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and financial transactions, while ensuring accurate documentation. Assist with payroll preparation and reconciliation and related entries. Review and audit expense and per diem reports for relevance and accuracy. Analyze and audit financial data to identify trends, report discrepancies, and suggest improvements. Assist in the preparation of cyclical and ad hoc financial reports. Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities. Record and maintain accurate financial data and transactions in Business Central, while running data analysis, and leveraging the system's capabilities to streamline and automate processes, where applicable. Collaborate with Corporate Services to maintain and record fixed assets. Collaborate with Human Resources and act as Benefits Administrator for enrolment and termination of plan members and remit premiums and contributions. Maintain accurate employee data related to salaries, deductions, employee status and benefits administration. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned.

What you will bring to the role:



A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Minimum 3 years experience in full cycle accounting or bookkeeping. CPA designation in good standing. Proficiency in accounting software (Business Central) or demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new applications. Experience working with not-for-profit, regulatory or charity organizations is an asset. Knowledge of accounting principles and tax regulations, and familiarity with financial auditing practices. Experience assisting with payroll preparation (e.g. earnings, deductions, statutory requirements). Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, exercise good judgment and seek support as necessary. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, time-management and organizational skills. Exceptional communication and active listening skills, with the ability to confirm and clarify information. Demonstrated experience with handling sensitive and confidential information. Demonstrated ability to manage routine and standardized tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical. Demonstrated advanced technology proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Teams, Outlook, Excel and Word.

What we offer:



The position is a full-time, permanent position. Target salary hiring range is $61,475 - $63,959. Downtown Toronto office (directly on Line 2 of the TTC). Supportive work-life flexibility and a hybrid work model. An additional week of paid time off as the College closes between December 25th and January 1st and early office closure on the Friday before a long weekend.
