POSITION OVERVIEW:



We are seeking a curious Accountant. Someone who asks why? Notices when something doesn't look right and speaks up. An investigator, who likes to dig and look for solutions. Not just a data entry person, but someone who reaches out and finds out what's going on.

Our Accounting team of six, based at our Head Office in Stony Plain, Alberta supports the various business ventures of Sunrise International, including multiple hotels and other businesses. While our Accountants each have an assigned portfolio, they are team oriented, support each other, and love to brainstorm.

Responsibilities:



Full cycle accounting including account receivable, accounts payable, expenses, revenue, accruals, inventory, etc.

Monitor accounts receivable.

Prepare bank account and credit card reconciliations.

Review internal financial statements; collect, analyze, balance, maintain and investigate account information to help ensure the accuracy of the reported numbers.

Assist with inventory tracking and monthly reconciliation.

Prepare and report provincial and federal government reporting requirements, filings and related payments including GST, PST, and Hotel Tax.

Maintain month end and historical financial records by filing and organizing documents.

Prepare and file customized reporting as necessary.

Adhere to policies, standards and procedures established for internal controls and financial reporting.

Other duties as appropriately assigned.

Qualifications:



Post secondary education in Accounting is preferred. Equivalencies and experience will be considered.

3 - 5 years direct experience in a bookkeeper or accounting position.

Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.

Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Excel and MS Office.

Great Plains Accounting software knowledge is preferred but not required.

Good understanding of interdepartmental and intercompany transactions.

Experience with month-end and year-end working papers.

Ability to resolve accounting/reconciliation issues, prioritize tasks, set goals, and meet deadlines.

Must be patient, flexible and eager to take on responsibilities.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Accuracy which includes paying close attention to detail and ensure work and information are complete and thorough.

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with people, able to work independently as well as co-operatively on a team.

Excellent decision-making and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously.
