The Opportunity General Bank of Canada is looking for a permanent, full-time Junior Accountant to join the organization as a key contributor with the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s Accounting & Finance team. Consistent with the growth trajectory of the Bank, this is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to contribute to building the bank of the future with considerable potential for learning, growth, and advancement.
Reporting to the Director, the Junior Accountant provides support to the accounting and finance team with complete and accurate financial records. The Junior Accountant is required to work within the team and directly support with accounts payable, processing daily bank deposits, cash receipts, accounts and cash disbursements. Additionally, the Junior Accountant will assist in communication with the Sales, Administration, and the Credit and Collections departments to ensure accounting reports properly reflect these functional areas.
Responsibilities
  • Support in the processing of daily bank deposits (inclusive of compiling support documentation) in order to ensure accuracy of documentation.
  • Participating in all aspects of daily accounting production such as dealer funding for loans, customer payment processing, overages, bank reconciliation, etc.
  • Support treasury management in daily processing of transactions and settlement reconciliation.
  • Assist in General Ledger administration and account reconciliation so that any discrepancies can be resolved, and accuracy of accounts can be ensured.
  • Support the team with month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing, processing, and reporting to ensure accurate and complete financial positions are recorded.
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents in order to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist the senior team members in internal and external regulatory reporting in order to ensure compliance as required.
  • Provide support to internal and external auditors during department or Bank audits as required.
  • Produce departmental reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends to support other business functions.
  • Assist, where necessary in the preparation, recording, and processing of customer payments through the accounts payable process as needed.

What You Bring to the Table
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or diploma in accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution is preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years of accounting experience required.
  • Advanced working knowledge of general accounting principles and strong ERP/I.S. skills are required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (data maintenance, filtering, pivot tables, accounting-specific calculation formulas).
  • Able to adhere to bank policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment with strong time management skills.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn and quickly grasp new concepts.

The salary range for this position starts at $55,081.00
