ShareLocated in Edmonton, ABSalary: $55,000-65,000/yearAn Edmonton client is searching for a Junior Accountant to join their team.Junior Accountant Highlights:

• Process payroll accurately and on time for 150-200 hourly and salaried employees, including union and non-union workers across six different unions, ensuring adherence to varying project payroll constructions. Manage a bi-weekly payroll schedule.
• Maintain compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements relevant to regions such as BC, Alberta (Red Deer, Edmonton), Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and Yukon.
• Manage union-based employee benefits programs, adapting to each union\'s unique benefits package.
• Maintain accurate employee records and ensure HR databases are updated with changes in employment status or personal information. Handle Record of Employment and T4 forms in connection with Service Canada.
• Assist in onboarding and offboarding procedures, including integrating employees into payroll systems and managing employment contracts and orientation sessions.
• Respond promptly to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and other HR-related issues.
• Collaborate with finance and accounting departments to reconcile payroll transactions and resolve discrepancies.
• Generate reports and analyze payroll data to identify trends and suggest process improvements. Note: The reporting process will be implemented in September, and there is a current transition from Ceridian Power Pay to Ceridian Day Force.
• Assist HR with administrative tasks, such as scheduling interviews and organizing training sessions. However, this is not a primary concern, as recruitment support will eventually be provided.
• Support the accounting and accounts payable departments with tasks like data entry, generating purchase orders, and entering invoices.
• Qualifications:
• 1-2 years of experience in full-cycle accounting.
• Accounting Diploma to pursue a CPA designation.
• Experience in construction or project accounting is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with payroll systems and transitions; direct involvement in implementing new payroll systems is a plus.
