About the Role



We're looking for a

Junior Buyer / Cost Control Specialist

to support purchasing and budget tracking on active construction projects. This position works closely with the site team, subcontractors, vendors, and project managers to ensure the right materials and services are ordered

correctly, on time, and at the right cost

.

You'll be a key part of keeping the job moving--ensuring purchase orders are accurate, deliveries meet schedule, and costs stay within project budgets.

Key Responsibilities



Procurement / Buying



Assist in sourcing, requesting quotes, and purchasing construction materials, equipment rentals, consumables, and subcontract services. Prepare and issue purchase orders; follow up with site crews to confirm needs and specifications. Track lead times and deliveries; follow up on late shipments, damage, missing paperwork, and backorders. Coordinate with suppliers, logistics, and yard/site personnel to ensure materials are received and documented properly.

Cost Control / Site Support



Monitor purchase commitments against project budgets and cost codes. Compare invoices to purchase orders, agreements, and receiving records to verify pricing and quantities. Support monthly cost reporting, accruals, and forecasting with the Project Controls team. Maintain cost logs, PO trackers, and material costing spreadsheets.

Coordination & Compliance



Ensure purchased materials align with drawings, specifications, and HSE requirements. Support subcontract and supplier onboarding, including safety compliance and insurance documentation. Work with finance for invoice approval and payment follow-ups. Maintain organized records for audits, change management, and project closeout.

Qualifications



Required



Diploma or education in Supply Chain, Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. Strong Excel/Google Sheets abilities (filters, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables an asset). Strong communication skills to interact with site teams, vendors, and subcontractors. High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.

Preferred



Experience with construction purchasing, site administration, accounts payable, or cost tracking (1-2 years or internship). Knowledge of cost codes, takeoffs, BOMs, equipment rentals, or subcontract documentation. Experience with QuickBooks
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 - 50 per week

Work Location: In person
