About the role:
As a journeyman Plumber/ Gas Fitter, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing water supply, drainage, and sanitary systems across residential, commercial, and condominium properties. You will assemble and service plumbing fixtures, appliances, and piping systems while ensuring compliance with safety standards and building codes. The role involves reading blueprints, diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, and responding promptly to urgent repairs.
Responsibilities:
Install, modify, and repair plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, and sanitary systems for residential, commercial, and condominium properties.
Assemble, fit, and maintain plumbing fixtures and domestic appliances such as sinks, toilets, showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, hot water heaters, and humidifiers.
Install underground and above-ground piping systems, including sanitary, drainage, and water supply lines.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and site conditions to determine layouts, material needs, and equipment requirements.
Measure, cut, thread, join, and assemble pipes using appropriate tools, fittings, and techniques (e.g., soldering, welding, brazing, or mechanical connections).
Cut or drill openings in walls, floors, and trenches to accommodate plumbing installations.
Inspect plumbing systems, diagnose issues, and carry out timely repairs or replacements for pipes, drains, and fixtures.
Test plumbing systems using air and water pressure gauges to detect leaks and faults.
Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and chemical treatments to ensure optimal system performance.
Utilize hand and power tools to fit valves, couplings, and components for tanks, pumps, and related equipment.
Operate sewer inspection cameras and prepare reports as needed.
Maintain safe work practices in compliance with building codes, regulations, and OSHA/MSDS guidelines, including material storage and disposal. Report any deficiencies occurred in the east and west garages.
Collaborate with other trades (e.g., electricians, gas fitters, carpenters, Painter) to complete projects efficiently.
Select and procure plumbing materials and equipment and provide accurate reporting of project or safety concerns to supervisors.
Respond promptly to urgent plumbing issues and support supervisors with special projects as required.
Take before and after pictures, and detailed notes on each work order.
Candidate Requirements:
Must carry the company safety bag in your vehicle when on duties.
Utilize hand and power tools.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify plumbing issues and provide effective solutions.
Ability to estimate project costs and material requirements accurately.
Excellent communication and customer service skills when interacting with owners, tenants, clients, and team members.
Knowledge of gas fitting procedures, tools, and safety protocols considered an asset.
Adapt to work flexible and extended work hours, including routine on-call duties after 4 PM, weekends, and statutory holidays.
Your plumbing ticket will be registered with the City of Calgary.
Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) all the time at work.
Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and handling heavy plumbing tools, materials, and equipment (e.g., hot water tanks).
Work in confined, wet, or damp environments.
Able to withstand hours of working while standing, crouching, or assuming other rigorous positions.
