Western IntermodeX is seeking a Journeyman Mechanic to join our team. The full-time, day shift (10AM - 6PM Monday to Friday) is based out of our Coast 2000 location in Richmond and will report to the Fleet & Facilities Supervisor.

PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Fleet and Facilities Supervisors, Mechanics are responsible for ensuring company vehicles and on-location equipment is mechanically sound and in effective, safe operating condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

  • Performing systematic inspections of company assets to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
  • Overhauling and repairing company assets to return them to safe operating condition.
  • Performing preventative maintenance routines and other duties on light and heavy-duty equipment to determine the cause of failure.
  • Communicate and perform vehicle repair needs.
  • Verify the adequacy of completed repair work and certify equipment as "road worthy."
  • Verifies work performed by contractors and certify that the repairs are aligned with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • High school graduation or equivalent. BCTQ and/or Interprovincial Certification as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Commercial Transport Mechanic with a combination of education and experience.
  • Red Seal Automotive Technicians with the following minimum qualifications may also be considered: diesel engine, propane engine, air brake, electrical diagnostics, and fluid power system (air and hydraulic) repair and maintenance.
  • Minimum of three (3) years recent experience required in equipment and machinery maintenance at the Red Seal/Journeyperson level, and successful candidates must possess their own hand tools.
  • Experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and overhaul of equipment and machinery.
  • Previous experience with repair and preventive maintenance on Forklifts. Container Handlers considered and asset.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication would be considered an asset.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor conditions.
  • Hold a valid driver\'s license.
