Responsibilities

Scan our writers' board and select available assignments. Conduct thorough research, interviews, and investigations to gather information. Generate and pitch story ideas relevant to the local community. Write and edit clear, accurate, and engaging articles within assigned deadlines. Cover a range of beats such as politics, education, local events, and community issues. Attend events, press conferences, and community meetings to gather information and build relationships with key stakeholders. Stay up to date with local news, trends, and developments. Collaborate with photographers, editors, and other journalists to produce high-quality content. Adhere to ethical standards and journalistic principles.

Qualifications

Experience in journalism, communications, or professional writing (portfolio required). Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is an asset but not required if relevant experience can be shown. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple assignments. Solid understanding of journalistic ethics and principles. Proficiency in digital tools and technologies related to journalism (e.g., CMS, social media, multimedia storytelling). Familiarity with Sarnia-Lambton news and issues is a strong asset. A passion for local news and community issues.
