Join Our Team as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, Nova Scotia (Northwest)
Are you semi-retired and looking for a meaningful way to stay engaged in wastewater treatment while sharing your lifetime of experience? We're looking for a knowledgeable and hands-on individual to provide short-term, post-commissioning support the day-to-day monitoring and basic maintenance of a new lagoon-based wastewater treatment facility that serves a domestic, non-municipal client.
This short-term, part-time contract (flexibility for the right applicant) is ideal for someone who wants to stay active, contribute to a small but committed team, and mentor site staff who have limited experience in wastewater systems.
You'll play a key role in:
Performing routine inspections and hands-on maintenance
Troubleshooting and monitoring equipment such as mechanical screening, aeration system, flow meters, and UV disinfection
Supporting site staff with practical guidance on proper operations, monitoring and record keeping
You will be supported by our Operations Manager.
No operator licensing is required.
Hours
8-16 hours per week- flexible based on candidate availability
Key Duties
Help develop, implement and train local staff on proper daily operations and basic maintenance tasks
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues
Maintain accurate records and documentation (procedures, schedules, inventories, and invoices)
Monitor plant performance to support local staff manage compliance and reporting requirements
Work safely and cooperatively
Participate in training and on-the-job learning; contribute to a culture of safety and reliability
Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications & Experience
10+ years experience with wastewater treatment equipment, plant operations, maintenance, and reporting. Lagoon based experience is a strong asset
Strong team player with a positive attitude
Strong training background
Additional Requirements
Ability to obtain a Reliability Clearance Certificate
Valid G Driver's License (or equivalent)
Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting and working in outdoor environments
Commitment to workplace safety and continuous learning
