Department Overview

Accountable for building, maintaining, and evolving the culture and community of Data Engineering. The role oversees a team of Practice Leads, and is responsible for coaching on knowledge, skills, and performance, building and evolving the practice\'s capabilities.

Works with leaders from other Practice-areas and other organizations (both internal and external to the Bank) to define and carry out large and/or breakthrough initiatives.

BREADTH & DEPTH

  • Provide people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork, and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Recognized as a top expert in their field whose focus is on the coaching and training of practice leads and/or high level senior practitioners
  • People leader with expert knowledge of disciplines and practices in field of expertise
  • Advanced and highly specialized knowledge of specific domain or broad range of TD frameworks, technology, tools, best practices, processes, and procedures, as well as broader organization issues
  • Proven ability in soft skills people management of large teams
  • Provide guidance on the work of Practice Leads and practitioners as related to the quality of work being produced, delivered & speed of delivery / to market
  • Ability to coach Practice Leads to develop colleagues to be masters of their craft in the market around us
  • Quickly adapts to customer, stakeholder, and regulatory needs in collaboration with Platform and Journey teams
  • Experienced in the continuous assessment of Practice Leads/ Data Engineering Practitioners and their craft to ensure enterprise practice standards are upheld.
  • Facilitate and foster Practice Community of Interest and use of this practice across the Technology organization
  • Contribute to the development of coaching strategies for individuals within their area of expertise
  • Provide leadership and guidance to several teams and solves cross-department issues
  • Participate in the development of business and practice strategies
  • Expert collaborator and is known for bringing diverse teams together to achieve a common goal
  • Sets objectives for team of Practice Leads in their area of responsibility
  • Collaborate with other PALs in delivery of Practice-Area objectives
EXPERIENCE AND / OR EDUCATION
  • University or Graduate / post graduate degree in Data Management or related Computer Science or Engineering discipline; or equivalent practical experience
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in field of specialization

CUSTOMER
  • Ensures a holistic design approach is followed by the practice across initiatives and areas of TD, breaking silos.
  • Responsible to drive and adopting standards, best practices, and frameworks for data flows, using the approved tools across DaaS and TD.
  • Leads and coordinates development, documentation, and rolled out of policies and procedures. Communicates policies and procedures to the Practice and other supported delivery areas and enforces adherence to processes and procedures.
  • Provides leadership with an on-going focus on reusability, scalability, and innovation within the communities of practice.
  • Provides guidance on the work of practitioners as related to the quality of product(s)/work being produced, delivered & speed of delivery to market
  • Create and maintain strategic capability by enhancing depth and integrity of system knowledge
  • Enhance Development Capability assessment with a continuous learning approach to grow team expertise leveraging a curated training curriculum
  • Look for opportunities to leverage learnings across initiatives and collaborates with delivery partners
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance productivity, effectiveness, and operational efficiency of the business unit and/or team
  • Actively participate in demand management and resourcing of delivery pods
  • Develop and manage Practice OKRs and budget to ensure effective use of corporate funds and compliance with budget targets and outsource vendor contract terms and conditions
  • Drives change through positive reinforcement of milestones and successes
  • Grows team expertise to align with business/enterprise demand and direction; assess team skills and capabilities and continually look for ways to provide and enhance the value delivered
  • Conducts formal performance reviews and provide on-going feedback; coach and develop employees and ensure performance management and development planning activities are undertaken and completed
