Description:

Under the direction of the Manager, Job Evaluation Services and Assistant Director, Job Evaluation Services, the Job Evaluation & Training Consultant is a specialist in job evaluation and provides a broad range of analytical and advising services relating to the compensation and job evaluation of designated employee groups.

As a senior member of the team, the incumbent facilitates effective relationships with clients; trains, coaches and advises clients on job evaluation processes, interpretation and decisions; leads or participates in discussions with the union on job evaluation ratings and disputes, prepares documentation for referees, arbitration and meetings, analyzes job content applying the job evaluation tool; participates in internal alignment meetings to ensure consistency, data transfer and knowledge sharing; and participates in various new initiatives, special projects and committees related to compensation.

The incumbent is expected to think strategically in developing approaches to proposals and disputes taking into consideration any short and long term impacts. The incumbent compiles data and reports, as required.
Responsibilities also include providing analysis, advice and direction on job evaluation, administering the University\'s pay policies and programs, pay equity, salary administration; providing reports and analysis in support of collective bargaining; researching information for and preparing and analyzing a wide variety of official university reports; advising HR professionals on the interpretation of compensation policies, salary administration, job design and job evaluation; participating in new compensation initiatives, special projects and committees; developing and delivering training for Managers and Divisional HR Offices on compensation matters.

Qualifications Required:

I. EDUCATION:

University degree in a related field and the completion of coursework towards a relevant professional designation, such as CHRP or Certified Compensation Professional, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

II. EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five (5) years of progressively senior human resources experience with some specialization in job evaluation; experience training and coaching others is required; past experience of job evaluation and compensation practices in a unionized environment is an asset.

III. SKILLS:

Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet applications and data base applications; working knowledge of HRIS systems; familiarity with presentation software including PowerPoint.

IV. OTHER:

Strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent communication skills (verbal and written), strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with multiple, frequently changing and sometimes conflicting priorities; able to develop effective relationships with clients; commitment to quality of service delivery and team work; creativity and initiative; willingness to present to and train others and develop related presentation skills; an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity; conflict resolution skills and the ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality.
