About the Program:





Employment program supports persons with self-identified disabilities who are experiencing barriers to employment. The objective of the program is to prepare participants to acquire new skills and enhance existing skills, so they find long term success in finding and keeping good jobs and contributing to healthy, inclusive society. Participants receive the skills and support to help in preparing for, finding, and keep good jobs or becoming self-employed, or advancing in their careers, or taking on new or greater responsibilities.

Position Summary:





The Position reports to Manager, Employment Programs


Job Coach at the John Howard Society of Victoria, plays a vital role in empowering individuals with employment barriers and self-identified disabilities to secure employment. The position involves administering intake processes, developing employment opportunities in the Construction and Hospitality sectors, and providing intensive support during work experiences. The position will also engage with employers to facilitate successful transitions for participants, documenting their progress and creating personalized Employment Plans. This full-time position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community while fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment. This is an in-person role with no opportunity to work remotely.

What You'll Be Doing:





Client Support and Case Management (60%)

Conduct intake assessments to identify barriers and employment goals for clients. Provide training and support to enhance our clients' job readiness, resume writing, interview preparation and skill development. Develop and Identify employment opportunities suitable for participants in the Construction and Hospitality Industry. Provide intensive support during participants' work experiences to ensure success. Follow up with participants at 30, 60, and 90 days post-work experience to monitor progress. Document participant progress and employment status in the client management system. Facilitate transportation for participants during their initial employment phase. Coordinate classroom support and manage materials as needed. Purchase industry-specific safety equipment for participants when required. Educate employers about the goals and purposes of employment programs. Collaborate with participants to develop and revise their next step plans as necessary. Assist with participant touchback sessions based on individual needs.

Community Engagement (20%)

Build relationships with local employers to secure job placement opportunities. Provide ongoing support to employers to ensure a smooth transition for program participants into employment Promote the programs to potential referral sources consistently and on an ongoing basis. Mediate any conflicts that may arise between employers and employment participants.

Administration (20%)

Ensure the administrative tasks associated with each intake are coordinated Ensure timely completion of employer satisfaction surveys. Submit reports detailing participant activity and statistical information to the Manager, Employment Services as required. Provide office and reception coverage as needed.

Perform other duties and projects as required and not limited to the responsibilities as mentioned.

What We're Looking For:



Qualifications:



Diploma in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 1 year of experience in employment services, job coaching, or related roles. Background in working with vulnerable populations, particularly those with mental health issues, addictions, or developmental disabilities. Proficient in verbal and written English at a professional level, with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. High proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint). Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle. Criminal Record Check. Emergency First Aid certification is an asset. Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information effectively and possess strong integrity.

Skills and Competencies:



Dispute mediation or resolution and problem-solving skills. Experience in coordinating administrative tasks associated with client intakes and managing the program requirements. Experience in providing training and support for job readiness, including resume writing and interview preparation. Familiarity with employment opportunities in the Construction and Hospitality industries. Ability to provide intensive support during work experiences and monitor participant progress. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of clients and the organization.
