Position Summary

PDSCL is seeking a reliable and adaptable individual for a Temporary Full-Time Float position at the Compass Shelter. The Float Support Worker provides coverage across various areas of the program to support staffing needs such as sick leave, vacation coverage, or other operational requirements.

This position requires flexibility for all shifts and work areas, with a 40-hour work week tentatively scheduled two weeks in advance.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Compass Shelter Coordinator, the successful candidate will:

Perform routine cleaning and sanitation duties, including dishwashing, pot washing, and maintaining cleanliness throughout the facility. Assist with non-cooking food preparation and the distribution of meals and beverages to residents. Clean and disinfect areas such as walls, windows, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, blinds, and washrooms using appropriate methods (dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping, etc.). Support a respectful and inclusive environment for all residents and staff. Follow all health and safety standards, infection control procedures, and society's policies and procedures. Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and residents to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

Completion of Grade 10 education. Minimum of one (1) month of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Valid

First Aid/CPR Certificate

Food Safe Certificate

Class 5 Driver's Licence

with an acceptable driving record.

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

(working with vulnerable adults).

Medical clearance

confirming fitness to work.

Skills and Abilities

Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities. Physical capability to perform cleaning and light lifting duties. Initiative, reliability, and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to respectful, professional, and safe work practices. Ability to manage stress and maintain composure in a busy environment.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a temporary full-time (40 hours/week) position.
After three (3) full months of employment, the successful candidate will qualify for Health and Welfare benefits beginning on the first day of the following month.
