to maintain our facilities and contribute to creating a positive, culturally grounded environment for Indigenous youth, staff, and visitors.

ABOUT TSE LHTS'ENC'IL NEC'IGEKH BE YIKH (SPLIT ROCK HEALING HOUSE)

Located on Takiga Lake near Witset, BC, Tse Lhts'enc'il Nec'igekh Be Yikh (Split Rock Healing House) is a four-month, six-bed live-in program for Indigenous youth in northern BC. Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, the program supports youth in connection with family and community, addressing physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional healing.

Youth are supported by trauma-informed counsellors, social workers, Elders, knowledge keepers, and a dedicated wellness team. Families are welcomed into the process, and support continues beyond youth's time in the program through mentorship, alumni activities, and cultural connections.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Janitor ensures that Split Rock Healing House remains clean, safe, and comfortable. Responsibilities include routine and deep cleaning of the main building and cabins, ensuring safety and sanitation standards are met, and helping create a welcoming environment that reflects care and respect.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, values teamwork, and understands how an orderly space supports the healing process.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

All janitorial staff shall be responsible for:

Cleaning & Facility Upkeep

Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of program spaces, including offices, classrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas. Clean and maintain five on-site cabins before and after use by visitors or program participants. Empty garbage and recycling, and restock supplies. Perform monthly and annual deep cleans (carpets, windows, high-touch areas). Conduct full cohort transition cleaning every 4 months.
Safety & Compliance

Follow cleaning/disinfection protocols from BCCDC, Health Canada, and IPAC Canada. Keep accurate logs of cleaning schedules and tasks. Ensure client safety during cleaning by using proper signage and safe cleaning practices. Safely handle cleaning supplies in line with Safety Data Sheets. Wear PPE as needed to ensure personal safety.
Team & Youth Support (as appropriate)

Work respectfully around youth, modeling inclusive and non-judgmental behavior. Occasionally support youth in learning basic cleaning or housekeeping life skills (if required). Collaborate with the wider team to ensure facilities reflect a safe, welcoming, and healing environment.
This position requires some flexibility, including occasional evenings, weekends, or adjusted hours within the standard 35-hour workweek.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired:

1-2 years of janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience. Ability to follow cleaning schedules and safety protocols. Reliability, attention to detail, and good time management skills. Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or equivalent).
Assets:

Experience working in residential, healthcare, or live-in environments. Knowledge of Indigenous culture and/or experience working in Indigenous organizations. Understanding of trauma-informed approaches in a workplace setting.
EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent required. Training or certification in sanitation, occupational health & safety, or related areas is an asset.
