We are looking for Computer & Data Science Co-op Students to join ATCO for 8-, 12-, and 16-month terms. Positions start in January 2024 in various locations including Edmonton and Calgary.

Relocation assistance may be provided to the successful candidate.

Co-op Student Requirements (General):

  • Enrollment in a co-op (or internship) program in a recognized Canadian university
  • Excellent computer skills and experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner, using appropriate technical vocabulary
  • A valid Class 5 driver\'s license and personal vehicle may be required for some positions.

Cybersecurity Governance

Discipline: Computer or Software Engineering

Location: Edmonton or Calgary

Description:

This team manages Cybersecurity Governance, Risk, and Compliance for ATCO and its business units, including corporate and industrial control systems. The Cybersecurity team resides under the Information Technology & Global Security team.

Activities:
  • Support activities relating to Cybersecurity Governance, Risk, and Compliance.
  • Utilize software tools to automate workflows.
  • Assist with the creation of dashboards.
  • Contribute to improving standards development.
  • Complete cyber risk assessments.
Other Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with clients, support staff, vendors, and service providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues in complex mission critical environments.
  • Possess excellent organizational and planning skills and can manage competing priorities.
  • Have a strong personal initiative, ability to deliver high quality results, and desire for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team.


Cybersecurity Operations

Discipline: Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, or related field (i.e. Electrical Engineering)

Location: Edmonton or Calgary

Description:

Students will work with teams to assess, develop, and/or support numerous cyber security policies, and gain exposure to Cyber Security Incident Response Planning and Response.

Activities:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Strengthen the Bank\'s security posture by ensuring system and personnel compliance with policies and standards
  • Work with peer mentor on various projects and activities
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Other Qualifications:
  • Relevant internships and/or co-op program experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with scripting languages is preferred
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills with the ability to respond to internal and/or external requests.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Capacity to learn additional software applications as required by the assignment.
  • Capable of managing own time, meet established deadlines, and remaining flexible
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative.


Data Analysis, Customer Experience

Discipline: Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Business, or other related discipline

Location: Calgary

Description:
Students will assist with data analysis services to ATCO\'s Customer Experience departments within the Natural Gas division. The focus of this position is to work closely with departments to gain in-depth understanding of market trends, business strategy, process improvements, and operational services. Further, you will have the opportunity to assist the Key Accounts team in hosting or running customer events.

Activities:
- Support requests from other business partners by compiling operational and financial data.
- Using quantitative and analytical skills to assist with generating comprehensive reports; visualize data using dashboards.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation that supports business analysis, performance measurement, and reporting activities, or other documentation as required.
- Create informative, actionable, and repeatable reporting that highlights relevant operational trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Work with a diverse number of sections to understand business processes and gather data.
- Conduct insightful, ad hoc analyses to investigate ongoing or one-time operational issues.
- Perform industry research that are relevant to Natural Gas division.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other related duties as required, which could include assisting with customer events.

Other Qualifications:
- Experience with Python, SQL, Tableau, or PowerBI would be considered an asset.
- Ability to learn new applications as required.
- Ability to express ideas and concepts effective, both oral and written.
- Excellent conceptual learning, technical aptitude, and analytical ability.
- Sound judgment, self-initiative, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Detail oriented and inquisitive.



Technology & Data Management

Discipline: Computer or Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science

Location: Edmonton

Activities:
- Lead and/or support the implementation of automation regression testing to support existing integration technology processes for operational activities.
- Support & build out data management catalogues for work & asset management systems in data lake & warehouse platforms.
- Build business reports in data warehouse & lake platform leveraging data analytical tool such as Microsoft Power BI

Other Qualifications:
- Understanding of a programming language (SQL, Python, VBA, etc.) and practices
- Understanding of Reporting & analytics is an asset
- Participating & work in a team environment to build successful outcomes
