How will you contribute?

The Planning Officer works in a matrix environment, supporting several projects and initiatives reporting to the Manager, Accommodation Services, and supporting Senior Project Advisors assigned to the projects.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to ensure a high level of interior design including proposing innovative solutions, while respecting heritage design and character of the Senate-occupied buildings. Responsibilities include leading or assisting in various project design phases, planning and consulting with clients and stakeholders, identifying and developing functional requirements, the development of Building Component and Connectivity (BCC - also referred as Furniture Fixtures and Equipment/FF&E) lists including the selection and ensuring quality assurance throughout all project phases, commissioning and post-move occupancy as well as the integration of the Senate accommodations standards across all Senate-occupied buildings.

Prerequisites

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary education in an Interior Design program or related field;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the application of the principles, methods and practices of project management to gather and meet client and corporate requirements;
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts and techniques of interior design, with emphasis on their application to major construction and renovation projects;
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts and techniques of interior design, interior space management and optimization;
  • Knowledge of concepts and methods related to space planning, layout, and design development, ergonomic and environmental considerations, project documents, specifications for furniture, finishes, and furnishings, tendering process, interior installations, and post-occupancy management;
  • Knowledge of project management principles, methods and practices;
  • Knowledge of negotiation techniques to obtain consensus among the diverse project participants, with various clients, suppliers and service providers;
  • Possess advanced communication (both written and oral) and presentation skills.
