Do you want to be at the forefront of the Senate of Canada\'s modernization? Are you a research expert who is able to find the legendary needle in a haystack? If so, you are the perfect candidate for this job opportunity.

Working closely with the Senator and his team, the Parliamentary Research Assistant conducts research and data analysis and writes comprehensive reports to help prepare the Senator for his work in the chamber and in committees he sits on, including the Agriculture and Forestry Committee, for which he is the Chair. In addition, the incumbent researches, analyzes and finds the necessary information to write speeches, presentations, briefings, news releases and correspondence. The incumbent is responsible for providing general information to the Senator and his staff to make sure they are always on top of new issues and areas of interest or concern. The incumbent will need to be independent and willing to perform a variety of tasks, including responding to emails, performing administrative tasks and assisting other team members as needed.

The general public to staff one (1) determinate or indeterminate full-time position in the Office of the Honourable Senator Robert Black.

Please note that \xe2\x80\x9cindeterminate\xe2\x80\x9d refers to an employment contract with no specified end date.

Prerequisites

- Successful completion of a university degree in a field related to the position and / or other relevant field of studies combined with experience;
- Extensive experience in legislative or legal research, policy review and drafting reports;
- Extensive and recent experience in writing documents such as briefing notes, reports, statements and speeches;
- Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with senior officials and/or parliamentarians;
- Extensive experience in using the MS-Office suite;
- Knowledge of communication techniques, methods and practices and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Detail-oriented, well organized, and able to coordinate, multi-task and manage competing priorities and timelines;
- Knowledge of parliamentary procedure is considered an asset, as is knowledge of strategic communications, including media and social media;
- English is essential. Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
