How will you contribute?

Working closely with Senator Marc Gold, the current Government Representative in the Senate, as the special assistant you will be responsible for preparing the Senator for Question Period every sitting day, this means liaising with Ministers offices and keeping abreast of current affairs and events in the media, the Senate and the House of Commons. You will also be required to provide administrative assistance and support the Senator in the performance of his parliamentary functions. To be successful in this role, you will need to have an understanding of policy and politics in the Senate and be a strong team player. The role will include many engaging opportunities, working in proximity to many honourable Senators, Parliamentarians, senior government officials and groups dedicated to various important initiatives across Canada.

The general public to staff one (1) determinate or indeterminate full-time position in the Office of the Honourable Marc Gold - Government Representative in the Senate.

Please note that \xe2\x80\x9cindeterminate\xe2\x80\x9d refers to an employment contract with no specified end date.

Prerequisites

- University diploma from a recognized university in political science, law, communications or any other field related to the duties of the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
- Experience providing general administrative and legislative services in an office environment such as writing formal correspondence, briefing materials and reports, formatting documents, organizing and scheduling meetings and managing electronic filing systems;
- Experience in dealing with senior officials, parliamentarians and the media;
- Experience in using the MS-Office suite and other systems supported by the Senate;
- Detail oriented, well organized, and able to coordinate and multitask competing priorities and timelines;
- Strong research, analytical and communication skills as they relate to policy review and legislative rules and procedures;
- English is essential. Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset;
- Experience and aptitude working with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) is considered an asset.
