Our Team: Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations. The Project Controls Team is integral to Vale\xe2\x80\x99s project management, construction management, engineering, procurement and contracts, and other cross-functional teams within Sudbury Mines projects portfolio. Team members are actively involved in providing project controls services to study project managers and other project stakeholders and business leaders in managing Sudbury Mines projects. The Opportunity We are currently seeking 3rd Year IT/Computer/Software Engineering Summer Students to join our NAPG Sudbury Mines Project Controls Department in Sudbury, ON . These are fixed term positions, 4 months duration, starting in May 2023. The successful student candidate will provide IT services and perform related tasks with focus on Sudbury projects information/data gathering, analysis, integration, and presentation/visualization (dashboards) by designing and developing IT systems/tools/ platforms using available technology/applications. The student will work closely with project controls and project teams and will be involved in supporting day-to-day project activities. In this position your responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
  • Monitoring, tracking, compiling, analyzing, and organizing of project information for status and performance reporting at a regular frequency including supporting ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Maintain databases and perform updates as required to ensure accuracy of the project information.
  • Uses various IT applications and in-house databases to extract and present relevant project data/information including MS suite of products, PRISM, Primavera P6, ACONEX and others.
  • Define and develop the detailed key performance indicators (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Planning and Financial, and related), process flows and analysis of the data.
  • Design and develop project performance reports and dashboards using data visualization tools \xe2\x80\x93 Power BI, MS SharePoint, and MS PowerApps
  • Design and development of information gathering applications/system (fillable forms and workflows), analysis and reporting automation including designing of relevant databases for storage and retrieval for visualization.
  • Take our Floor Management Development System (FMDS) and daily line up boards into the cloud so that we can display them on screens and anyone on a project can attend the daily line up\xe2\x80\x99s remotely and see the daily tracking of a project.
  • Create a webpage on our Intranet site for the Sudbury Mines group as a one stop shop for all our project metrics, reports and FMDS boards.
  • Integrate all our latest project drawings into the cloud so that the supervisors and workers underground have the latest information on their tablets over the LTE network.
  • Automate the generation of the suite of our reports and management presentations.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Follow safety policies, procedures, best practices, and government regulations always.
  • Current schedule is 5 days per week Monday to Friday 8 hours per day (excluding recognized holidays)
About You Education:
  • Currently enrolled in 3 rd year -IT/Computer/Software Engineering undergraduate program
Requirements:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 products; Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Proficient in Microsoft \xe2\x80\x93 SharePoint, Power BI, Power Apps and other developer tools for visualization and data management.
  • Proficient in Cloud technology applications and Cloud management apps.
  • Must have strong knowledge of databases/database management and information integration from various project information tracking/gathering tools.
  • Basic knowledge of project management and project controls is preferred.
  • Demonstrated good communication, organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills.
