The Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics is hiring world-leading specialists to transform our understanding of mental health by organizing, integrating, analyzing, visualizing and modelling data across all levels of the brain \xe2\x80\x94from genes to circuits to behaviour. This multimodal data is gathered across the clinical environment including genetic, epigenetic, MRI, DTI, fMRI, hd-EEG, actigraphy and electronic medical record data. Teams will employ state-of-the-art techniques including topological data analysis, machine learning and multiscale computational modeling to accelerate identification and treatment of mental health disorders. Research is performed in an open, team science environment, with an emphasis on reproducible data-driven research and a patient-centric approach. A focus on global collaboration is key to transforming our understanding of mental health and its treatment. The Centre will operate as an incubator for medical technologies to identify, manage and treat mental illness, while shaping policy at national and global levels.

Position Summary

The KCNI is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) IT Specialist who will work in collaboration with the KCNI / BHDB technical teams to develop, launch and maintain systems and applications supporting key research data management and computational infrastructure in support of regional and national data systems. Reporting to the Program Manager, the IT Specialist will have expertise in Development / Operations (DevOps), server hardware implementation, networking, virtual architectures and the management of test, development and production environments, server patching, anti-virus/security best-practices, for Linux and Windows operations systems. The IT Specialist should be able to demonstrate competencies working with health care data, that may include genomics, brain imaging, EEG, medical records, behavioral data from mobile apps and wearables. The successful candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position will be located at 250 College Street, Toronto.

Key Accountabilities

• Working with the KCNI and provincial teams, your responsibilities include the management, integrity and maintenance of the regional and national data management and compute infrastructure.
• Managing knowledge graph system architecture, both physical and virtual.
• Manage permissions and roles, for developers and system users, in alignment with clinical and research compliance.
• DevOps frameworks for deployment and maintenance.
• System monitoring, updates and upgrades.
• Software development for system additions, including documentation and versioning systems.
• Maintaining system patches and security configurations/updates in accordance with best-practices.
• Conduct research and make recommendation on network and infrastructure products, services, protocols, and standards in support of the network procurement and development efforts.
• Coordinating hardware refreshes, warranties and upgrades as needed.
• Support Cloud Strategy and service migrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Information Science, or related scientific field.
• A minimum (3) years of experience providing data architecture or engineering function.
• Experience working in an active research environment, ideally, including a combination of direct research experience and experience in data management, technology setting.
• Strong knowledge of data management across the research lifecycle, including creation, processing, analysis, preservation, access, and reuse of research data.
• Experience with agile/scrum development approaches
• Expertise working with versioning control systems, package management software and software development life cycles.
• Solid understanding of key DBMS platforms like SQL Server, Oracle and DB2, including technical expertise in data architecture principles and design aspects of various DBMS and reporting concepts.
• Experience with High Performance Computing and Storage
• Experience with Data Management applications / databases
• Experience with operating system (Linux/Unix), administration, and support
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Bash, Go, Ruby).
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or Datadog.
• Strong understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack).
• Experience with interface/system integration (Linux/Windows)
• Experience with Cloud infrastructure and system migrations.
• Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and determined attitude towards ensuring accuracy and integrity.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; balancing strategic alignment with technology roadmap and emerging industry trends with practical delivery.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with research faculty, students, and staff in a team environment.

Desired

• Experience with high performance computing and parallelization of code
• Experience in the creation and management of Kubernetes clusters.
• Proficiency in defining Kubernetes resources using Helm charts.
• Familiarity with Cluster CI/CD using FluxCD.
• Experience managing secrets in Git repositories using SOPS keys.
• Expertise in platform monitoring methodologies and tools.
• Experience deploying clusters and applications in cloud or hybrid environments.
• Software development and best-practices
• Highly self-motivated and directed personal attributes
• Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset

Please Note: This full-time, contract (12 months) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range: $38.21 - $51.54 per hour
