Who we are

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province\xe2\x80\x99s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province\xe2\x80\x99s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario\xe2\x80\x99s electricity needs \xe2\x80\x93 now and into the future.
The opportunity
The IT Contract Specialist assists with the management, negotiation and development of I&TS contracts. They will be responsible for the administration of I&TS contracts and the associated invoices, change requests, Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders. They will provide accurate, comprehensive, in-depth, value-added technical, commercial, risk and financial analysis required by I&TS Management and Contract Managers. They will be responsible for recommending and implementing improvements to contract management processes and procedures used within I&TS.
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do
The Business Analyst will provide analytical and administrative support including, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Assisting with the management, negotiation, development and administration of contracts. Tasks may include:
  • Providing support for contract amendments and contract negotiations including the development of negotiation principles, strategies, and various contract management processes;
  • Monitoring and tracking of contract counterparty deliverables required in the contracts to ensure timely and accurate submissions;
  • Performing contract management and administration functions during the course of the contracts
  • Performing analysis and verification of contract counterparty reports that are required in the contracts
  • Assisting with procurement of external consultants (legal, technical, financial, etc.) to support the group and creation of proposal evaluation materials as well as evaluation administration.

Providing accurate, comprehensive, in-depth, value-added technical, commercial and financial analysis related to Smart Metering Entity\xe2\x80\x99s initiatives and projects. Tasks may include:
  • Using existing IESO analytical tools to conduct analysis;
  • Modifying, updating, and adapting existing analytical tools;
  • Designing and developing new analytical tools;
  • Developing and executing ad-hoc analysis approaches for one-off requests;
  • Participating in conjunction with external advisors and IESO departments in due diligence activities;
  • Performing functional, technical, regulatory and financial analysis for various initiatives.

Conducting technical research. Information resources could include: internet, conferences / technical sessions, internal content experts, external industry experts, utilities / government agencies in other jurisdictions, consultants, developers, and Ontario government agencies. Tasks may include:
  • Independently gather relevant information from various sources
  • Distill key information, facts, and concepts from potentially large volumes of information
  • Assemble distilled information to produce concise research reports / memorandums on findings
  • Create and deliver presentations to team on findings

Other Responsibilities:
  • Interface with others \xe2\x80\x93 internally with other IESO Departments as necessary; externally with Government and its agencies, such as the Ontario Energy Board, Ministry of Energy, and LDCs as appropriate, and with respective contract counterparties
  • Recommend changes as appropriate to organizational policies and procedures
  • Provide status updates and reports to management on a regular basis

What you need to succeed
Education:
  • Requires academic training in business administration, commerce, or finance or academic training in engineering. Requires the ability to conduct thorough research and distill information into a report and/or presentation.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in or equivalent to 4 years University education in an appropriate field.
Experience:
  • Requires experience in in-depth technical, commercial, and financial analysis, as well as contract management (i.e., contract administration, contract amendments, contract negotiations, etc.). This experience is typically acquired through a junior contract job or experience working with the relevant tools and systems. Requires knowledge of Project Management fundamentals and experience working with Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Access. Process knowledge of the Ontario electricity industry is preferable.

A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario. When working in the office, you will be located at our Oakville, ON location.
