Hiring Unit:
The Career Planning Service (CaPS) supports McGill students and recent alumni in the exploration of their career options. This includes not only internships but also permanent, part-time, and summer job searches. CaPS also helps students develop lifelong career management skills by providing workshops, individual advising, a comprehensive job posting service, and an extensive Career Resource Centre.

Position Summary:
As the graphic designer, the individual will be primarily responsible for implementing CaPS\xe2\x80\x99 communications strategy with students, employers and staff.

  • Design and production of print materials (posters, brochures, booklets, etc.)
  • Design and implementation of e-card campaigns (monthly newsletters, news bulletins, events publicity, etc.)
  • Working with staff members to decide on the best strategy for communicating with students about various events and programs


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Requirement:
  • Must be approved for the Work Study Program
  • Must be a full-time returning degree student at McGill, graduating summer 2024 or later.
  • Experience in graphic design and/or desktop publishing in a work setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with updating and maintaining websites
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Project management skills, including good organization and planning.
  • A creative and critical eye.
  • Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 (Fluent) on a scale of 0-4.

Ability to:
  • Multi-task, meet deadlines and work under pressure;
  • Work independently; and
  • Work with staff members to translate concepts into finished work.

An Asset:
  • Knowledge of video production, an asset
  • Experience designing infographics
  • Apply design principles in creative visual manners
  • Learn and apply best practices for creating accessible visual content

Technical:
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver).
  • Good understanding of the pre-print and print process.
  • Good understanding of graphical formats (bitmap, vector, web, etc.).
  • Familiar with HTML and CSS preferred.
  • Familiar with W3C web standards preferred.
  • Knowledge of PHP and mySQL an asset.

Hourly Salary: (AMUSE C) $16.06
