As an IT Analyst at the City of Edmonton you will provide subject matter expertise with in-depth knowledge and significant experience in the business processes supported by the City of Edmonton's SAP ECC ERP System, working most closely with the SAP Materials Management/Supply Chain Management, SAP Sales and Distribution and SAP Plant Maintenance modules. IT Analyst will play a key role in the process of release management for the City of Edmonton's ERP system.
This position is responsible for analysis, planning, configuration review, testing, documentation, troubleshooting and end user support as it relates to the HCM/SCM/FIN/PM/PS/CRM parts of the new SAP S4 Hana system.
In addition, while the City transitions to the new, cloud-based ERP system, the IT Analyst will continue to provide support to business areas in relation to the current SAP ECC, SAP ARIBA and PeopleSoft systems in order to ensure operational needs are met.
What will you do?

  • Develop functional specifications for reports, forms, interfaces, modifications and data conversions
  • Oversee the configuration, testing, quality assurance and implementation of new releases, modules and functionality Work with other staff to design, develop, and test intra and inter-system integrations
  • Develop configuration documentation
  • Work closely with SAP security (Controlling SAP module) team in the identification of authorization objects and to verify the requirements
  • Create integrated solutions to solve complex requirements; specializing in the delivery of cost effective and current technology solutions
  • As a Subject Matter Expert, provide priority setting and functional requirements and information to the developer to provide the solution
  • Execute planned enhancements, maintenance and support of enterprise modules
  • Provide key user training for better understanding and optimum utilization of the SAP System
  • Coordinate the work of seconded resources assisting in the implementation of new processes or functionality and facilitate the knowledge transfer that will increase SAP knowledge base across the business areas
  • Provide detailed and specific advice regarding the SAP MM and SCM Modules (Knowledge in SAP S&D and SAP PM would be an asset)
  • Contribute to, or lead parts of planning activities by providing knowledge of business trends, technology trends, vendor roadmaps/planned activities and identifying /helping to identify the impacts of change with respect to the business and technology within their area of specialty
  • Investigate operational requirements, problems, and opportunities. Completes and documents gap and/or root cause analyses
  • Recommend solutions and action plans which include effective business solutions through improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes or practices
  • Assist business teams with continuous improvement initiatives around their business processes. Identifies, evaluates and recommends business process options and improvements
  • Apply tools, techniques and processes to track, log and correct information related to configuration items
  • Verify and seek approval for changes ensuring protection of assets and components from unauthorized change, diversion and inappropriate use
  • Ensure that users comply with identification standards for object types, environments, processes, lifecycles, documentation, versions, formats, baselines, releases and templates
  • Work with Team Lead and service provider to review system software roadmaps and updates to identify and recommend the specific releases, features/functionalities available that merit action based on product owner direction and/or business needs
  • Respond to application issues/tickets assigned via the City's BMCRemedy system
  • Perform diagnostics and other problem-solving activities and implements remedial procedures as required Analyze and evaluate system report requests
  • Perform related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Degree in a related discipline and at least four (4) years experience in an IT Analytical role or equivalent, including demonstrated ability to lead initiatives of all sizes and complexities. Formal certification in the area of expertise is desirable; OR
  • Post-secondary diploma and at least five (5) years experience in an IT Analytical role or equivalent, including demonstrated ability to lead initiatives of all sizes and complexities. Formal certification in the area of expertise is desirable; OR
  • Certificate in a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant experience in an IT environment, including demonstrated ability to lead small to mid-size initiatives. Formal certification in the area of expertise is desirable
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in an IT analytical role involving programming systems analysis, and design and designing and developing SAP solutions or applications within an equivalent environment, including a minimum of three (3) years providing application support.
Assets:
  • SAP Support or implementation certifications
  • Other technology-specific certifications and diplomas related to the work
  • Experience providing 24x7 on-call support to a mission-critical application or system
  • Technical experience in a computing environment similar to the City of Edmonton's, including environments that have:
  • Complex and highly diverse data, application and technology environments
  • Hybrid environment of cloud and on-premise data, applications, and technologies
Skills required for success:
  • Strong understanding of both application support and business process design, with the ability to analyze and resolve conflicts
  • Experienced in programming, systems analysis, data modeling, and application development, preferably with Microsoft technologies
  • Capable of analyzing and resolving complex problems, with knowledge of performance monitoring and automated testing procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, focusing on customer service and teamwork
  • Ability to perform complex system integration, solution delivery, and maintenance, with awareness of the City of Edmonton's IT standards
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize and manage conflicting priorities with minimal direction
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, facilitates collaboration, and guides less experienced staff
