About the Role:



PRT is seeking a full time role that is a hybrid Irrigation & Seed Specialist to work at our PRT Prince Albert Nursery in Prince Albert, SK; this role will be focused on Irrigation for 6 months of the year and then on Seed processing the other 6 months.

Irrigation Specialist Accountabilities:




As a key member of the forest nursery grow team, the Irrigation Specialist will assist in the growing of tree seedlings used for reforestation. The Irrigation specialist is responsible for mixing fertilizers and checking EC readings, using and maintaining the irrigation system as well as assisting in any nursery related duties. Candidates should have a desire and keenness to learn about the forest seedling nursery activities, keep accurate records, work independently and efficiently. The majority of the work will be done outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes at times. Successful applicant will be required to complete in house online training courses. Shift work and weekend work is required - regular hours are 40 hours per week with varying shift times according to the grow season. The successful applicant would take on irrigation responsibilities from April until September or as directed by the Nursery Manager.

Key Accountabilities of the Irrigation Specialist are:



Unplug sprinkler nozzles and change irrigation filters Take daily block weights while scouting for pests and diseases Monitor and measure crop growth rates and conduct audits on lifted crops Adjust watering cycles and climate settings using climate control system Mix and maintain fertilizer levels Use, maintain, and make improvements to the irrigation system Assist with herbicide and pesticide applications Assist with greenhouse sanitation practices Keep neat and accurate records Support innovation and continuous improvement Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels Weekend work is required, especially during our summer season. After hours call out standby on a rotation schedule may be required. Other duties and work tasks may be assigned from time to time for seasonal projects (Sow, lift, Maintenance and blackout).

Seed Specialist Accountabilities:




The Seed Specialist Role will support the company's initiatives to process seed internally. The Seed Specialist plays a key role in ensuring high-quality seed handling, storage, and propagation within the nursery. This position is responsible for overseeing seed inventory, performing germination and viability testing, supporting propagation teams, and maintaining the highest standards of seed health and quality. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and knowledgeable about seed science, forestry or horticulture practices. The successful candidate would take on seed responsibilities from October to March or as directed by the Nursery Manager.

Key Accountabilities of the Seed Specialist are:



Support seed processing and local seed storage, including any seed testing efforts, quality control/assurance, and continuous improvement. Assist with maintaining the Prince Albert Nursery site in a ready state. Support safety programs in all aspects. Work in collaboration with the Nursery Manager, forest genetics staff, other company seed processing plant personnel in northern operations, sales teams, and seedling nurseries to accomplish the objectives of the organization. Manage all aspects of seed collection, receiving, processing, grading, and storage. Conduct routine germination tests, viability assessments, and seed stratification processes. Maintain accurate seed inventory records, lot tracking, and documentation in accordance with internal protocols and regulatory requirements. Prepare seed for sowing, including cleaning, treating, and stratifying seed batches. Collaborate with nursery production teams to meet sowing schedules and species-specific propagation requirements. Monitor seed storage conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) and ensure equipment is functioning properly. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to seed handling efficiency and germination success.

Required/Minimum Qualifications & Skills:



High School Degree or equivalent Valid Driver's License and/or reliable transportation Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, Outlook) Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills Great organizational and record keeping skills Customer driven and oriented Strong attention to detail Demonstrated skills in coaching and leadership Ability to problem solve and conduct root cause analysis Ability to work independently and as part of a production team. Strong planning, organization, and time management skills Comfort working in both indoor laboratory settings and outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills



Experience in a Nursery/Agriculture setting an asset Diploma or degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience in a Nursery/Agriculture setting an asset. Irrigation Knowledge or knowledge of water conservation practices. Comfort with equipment operation (e.g., tractors, forklifts, mowers) Mix of lab/seed room work and nursery production areas. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. Seasonal peaks may require flexible hours.
