About the Role
Are you fluent in Mushkegowuk Cree and passionate about supporting Indigenous patients and families navigating healthcare far from home? As an IPS Worker, you'll be a vital part of an interdisciplinary team, offering translation, interpretation, and compassionate support across Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Providence Care, and other local health services.
This role is deeply rooted in cultural respect and the values of Hotel Dieu Hospital, ensuring every patient feels seen, heard, and cared for.
What You'll Do

Language & Cultural Support
Provide accurate translation and interpretation services in Mushkegowuk Cree dialects.
Offer basic counselling and emotional support to patients and families.
Accompany outpatients to appointments, tests, and procedures.
Respond to language and patient emergencies while on-call.
#
Patient Care & Advocacy
Visit inpatients daily and assist with orientation for patients and families.
Help hospital staff with admission, treatment, and discharge planning.
Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare teams.
Educate staff on cultural awareness when needed.

Administrative & Logistics
Maintain accurate reports and documentation.
Support office tasks and coordination.
Escort patients to and from the airport as required.
What You Bring
Required:
Two-year college diploma or equivalent education/work experience.
Fluency in Mushkegowuk Cree dialects.
Medical terminology training or equivalent experience.
1-3 years of related experience.
Proven reliability and attendance.
Clear criminal background and vulnerable sector check.
Preferred:
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Attention to detail and basic computer proficiency.
Physical Requirements
This role requires physical stamina to meet the demands of shift work and patient support.
