We are looking for a professional with a passion for financial markets and institutional business development. This position is pivotal to the growth and development of our firm.



The Senior Investment Counsellor will be responsible for identifying, prospecting and managing new business relationships with institutional clients. The role demands a sophisticated understanding of financial markets and an in-depth knowledge of the institutional landscape in Canada.



The Senior Investment Counsellor will also serve as a trusted advisor to a number of the firm's institutional clients. They will be responsible for reviewing asset allocation and investment policy, explaining portfolio decisions and discussing the firm's investment outlook.



Main responsibilities:



Business development





Proactively identify and qualify potential institutional clients (e.g. pension funds, insurance companies, foundations, endowments, investment consultants) and develop a suitable sales process to capitalize on market opportunities in Ontario and Manitoba. Establish business relationships with consulting firms and gather information on their strategy and needs. Develop and implement targeted business development strategies with a view to penetrating new markets and new institutional customer segments. Establish a reputation with customers as an effective, insightful investment advisor and trusted long-term partner. Contribute to sales growth by developing the firm's network. Participate in industry events and conferences.



Managing client relationships





Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing institutional clients. Serve as a reliable point of contact and build rapport with assigned clients to establish strong business relationships. Stay abreast of the firm's investment strategy, its outlook on the economy and capital markets. Regularly communicate with clients and intermediaries in order to share the firm's investment strategy, philosophy and outlook on the economy and capital markets. Review investment policies and asset mixes and recommend changes if necessary. Provide regular updates to clients on their portfolio's progress via documents, emails, telephone and in-person presentations. Answer client queries on their holdings, the firm's investment strategy, economic outlook, or other matters affecting their portfolios. Process and monitor client transactions and ensure their compliance. Liaise with custodians, accountants, consultants and other parties on behalf of clients. Complete the know your client (KYC) account review. Collaborate with internal teams (portfolio management, client service, and compliance) to ensure client satisfaction and the delivery of high-quality service. Organize and participate in follow-up meetings, performance review presentations, and client events.

Support Activities:


Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of business development activities and client interactions in relevant CRM systems. Prepare reports on business development activities, and client relationship initiatives. Attend industry conferences, seminars, and networking events to increase the firm's visibility and identify new opportunities.

Short-and long-term success indicators:


To establish oneself with clients as an effective and insightful investment advisor and a trusted long-term partner. Develop strong relationships with existing and new clients. Grow the firm's client base and assets under management. Be an ambassador for the firm's values.

Required profile:


University degree in Finance, Economics or a related discipline ( MBA/MS is an asset) Five to ten years (and +) of experience in a similar position (Portfolio Manager, Client Relationship Manager, Business Development, etc.) in investment management, investment banking, trading or consulting CIM designation and/or CFA charterholder is an asset Meet OSC, AMF and other provincial requirements to register as an investment advisor

Ideal candidate qualifications:


Seasoned institutional investment management professional with a strong track record of building successful, long-term relationships with key clients in institutional asset management Experience in developing market that includes sophisticated institutional client origination and service delivery Strong results orientation and ability to achieve sales targets Strong understanding of the needs and concerns of institutional investors Strong analytical and financial analysis skills and experience in capital markets Ability to summarize research reports and to identify key ideas in the overall investment thesis Professional presence with strong interpersonal and presentation skills Self-starter with the ability to work independently Commitment to integrity and transparency Holds strong ethical standards for themselves High attention to detail Excellent oral communication and presentation skills
