Job Description

As Portfolio Head for Canada, provide oversight, direction and manage the staff (including oversight for outsourced responsibilities) to perform the necessary review/analysis (as generally outlined below) required to assess existing and prospective clients and counterparties for onboarding and execution, as well as ongoing monitoring of the Canadian portfolio. While the position will report to the Head of Corporate Credit Structuring for Banking, the individual will also work closely with the Credit Sector Heads who manage the overall Banking portfolio for seamless execution, including completing the applications and other related work as a key member of the Credit Team within Banking, when necessary.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Marketing/Business Assessment Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the staff works closely with Client Coverage and Product Partners to identify customer business opportunities and gather required information to complete a business screening, including providing the required information for Banking's capital allocation committee, updates to the pipeline report, and engage in internal discussions, as necessary.
  • Review transaction proposals, focusing on structure, terms and conditions and profitability
  • Engage as needed and when appropriate with Customer, Agent Bank, Bank Participants, Lawyers and other professionals.
  • Coordinate with the Credit Sector Heads within Banking and the Credit Department on initial credit risk screening to determine credit risk appetite / rating to support the business case.
  • Review and Recommend credit applications for submission to the Credit Department, including but not limited to:
All required analysis/forms
All compliance requirements (Conflict of Interest, Reputational Risk, KYC, etc.)
Ensure all related internal policies and procedures are followed, including sector/industry risk limits
Ensure the staff works seamlessly with the Credit Sector Heads / Credit Department counterparts to coordinate completion of credit assessment, assisting with any required due diligence needed to finalize the credit opinion/approvals.
  • Provide oversight and required approvals related to the review of all legal documentation, in addition to commitment letters, NDAs, and LOIs, etc. (working with the Legal Department or Outside Counsel, as required)
  • Review return metrics and profitability projections to assess the business case and secure required internal support and approvals.
  • Engage the Portfolio Management Team, as necessary, to assist with mitigation of risk appetite/returns.
  • Monitoring Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight, review and related commentary for the purpose of completing Comprehensive Annual Reviews and required covenant compliance monitoring for each client (obligor).
  • Monitor market movements and news in coordination with the Credit Department and Risk Management Department.
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly materials for the Problem Credit Committee and updated Exposure Strategies for clients, in coordination with the Credit Department.
  • Manage credit issues with the clients - including assessment of requests/changes. In the case of restructuring, coordinate with the Work Out Team.
  • Make recommendations on action/plan, when necessary, as it relates to credit issues/exposure management.
  • With the support of the Portfolio Management Team, execute strategies to hedge/reduce exposure.
  • Assist with regulatory related requests/meetings/presentations, as needed.
  • Assist with audit related requests/meetings/presentations, as needed.
  • Administrative Tasks:
  • Assist and coordinate onboarding requests, booking requests, and other administrative functions with the Middle and Back Office.
  • Respond to various customer requests.
  • Assist with other administrative duties within the group, as assigned.
  • Minimum Job Requirements or Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree required in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business Administration; advanced degree is a plus
  • 7+ years of experience in a Credit/Portfolio Management role
  • Ability to analyze credits, contracts, cash flow models and deal structures
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Capacity to effectively organize and multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Advanced PC skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
