Overview

Are you an investigator with several years of experience responding to scenes of fatal or serious injuries to conduct statutory enforcement investigations? Are you interested in being part of a team that identifies the causes of workplace accidents to help prevent them in the future? Bring your investigative and major case management experience with you and consider joining our multi-disciplinary OHS Investigations team as an investigations officer.

We currently have one vacancy in Fort St. John.

What you'll do

As an investigations officer you will:

• Use your extensive experience in investigating fatal and serious injuries to identify causes, make recommendations, and pursue enforcement actions, up to and including prosecution, if appropriate
• Collect, analyze, and organize large amounts of complex and technical information and physical evidence, and prepare comprehensive written reports
• Apply relevant sections of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation in a highly visible forum
• Participate in administrative proceedings, coroners inquests, and prosecutorial cases by providing written briefs and testimony as to facts obtained through personal observation, witness statements, and examination of documentary and physical evidence
• Make recommendations to promote health and safety awareness and prevent injuries and diseases
• Present to both internal and external stakeholders on investigations and occupational health and safety issues

Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for someone who can:

• Effectively conduct investigations using sound judgment and established investigative processes and techniques
• Remain calm and professional when dealing with individuals in traumatic situations
• Communicate in judicial and/or quasi-judicial proceedings in a professional manner
• Build positive and effective working relationships
• Travel on occasion

Your experience and educational background:

• A post-secondary degree or a post-secondary 2-year diploma in criminology, forensic science, or administrative or criminal law
• Or, completion of grade 12 and a minimum of 20 post-secondary credits and a minimum of 10 courses related to conducting statutory enforcement investigations
• A minimum of three years of experience (within the last five years) as an investigator who is part of a major investigation team responsible for conducting serious or complex investigations leading to judicial or quasi-judicial sanctions
• Experience managing multiple case files concurrently and in a timely manner
• Experience in major case management is an asset, including experience as a file coordinator
• Experience in health and safety, construction, forestry, manufacturing, commercial fishing, health care, or oil and gas is an asset
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
