GENERAL INSURANCE OMBUDSERVICE (GIO) INVESTIGATION OFFICER

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The General Insurance OmbudService (GIO) is a federally incorporated organization. Its subscribers are property and casualty insurers. Its purpose is to provide dispute resolution services to resolve complaints between policyholders and their insurance companies.
Position: Investigation Officer, GIO
Reports to: Deputy Ombudsman, GIO
Position Purpose:
The Investigation Officer is responsible for assessing and monitoring complaint files, recommending or initiating communication with appropriate parties. The Investigation Officer will conduct proactive investigations to resolve issues, address outstanding items, and determine whether a case has merit to continue further in the GIO process, with the approval of the Deputy Ombudsman. The Investigation Officer will coordinate mediation and senior adjudication processes if needed. The Officer will also write detailed letters to the consumer after our investigation is complete to explain their investigation findings.
Responsibilities
Assess and monitor complaint files, initiating communication with relevant parties.
Conduct proactive investigations to resolve issues and ensure the file is progressing.
Use judgment to determine if the case has merit and should move forward in the GIO process.
Write detailed letters to the consumer to explain the findings of the GIO investigation.
Coordinate mediation and senior adjudication processes when necessary.
Ensure that all complaints are handled impartially and fairly.
Assist with outreach activities as needed.
Qualifications
College diploma, preferably in insurance, business administration, or a related field.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in complaint resolution, insurance, or a related field.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to handle sensitive complaints with professionalism and discretion.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Knowledge of the GIO process and procedures.
Strong keyboarding skills and good working knowledge of MS Office.
