Job Summary



Laurier Optical

is seeking a dynamic and analytical Inventory & Purchasing Specialist to join our team. This strategic role is responsible for the complete lifecycle of our frame inventory across all store locations, from operational management to high-level analysis and brand acquisition. The ideal candidate will not only ensure the accuracy of our stock levels but will also analyze performance data to identify key trends, negotiate with suppliers, and discover new brand opportunities to drive growth. This position requires regular travel and is perfect for a business-savvy individual who excels at the intersection of logistics, analysis, and commerce.

Key Responsibilities



1. Inventory Management & Control:



Travel to various store locations monthly to conduct comprehensive inventory scans and audits. Conduct regular physical inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure accuracy between physical stock and system records. Oversee the receiving, inspection, and processing of all incoming shipments. Investigate and resolve any inventory discrepancies in a timely manner.

2. Supplier Relations & Purchasing:



Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with new and existing suppliers. Act as a key point of contact for supplier negotiations, discussing terms, pricing, and return policies to optimize profitability. Actively research the market to identify opportunities for new brand acquisitions that align with our company's brand and customer base. Manage special orders and warranty claims, ensuring efficient resolution with vendors.

3. Reporting & Strategic Analysis:



Generate and analyze regular inventory reports on key metrics such as sales velocity, stock turnover, and aging inventory. Identify and report on product trends, best-sellers, and slow-movers to provide actionable insights for purchasing and marketing decisions. Prepare forecasts and recommendations to guide inventory planning and purchasing strategies.

4. Display & Merchandising Support:



Routinely monitor all frame displays to ensure they are fully stocked, organized, and visually appealing. Promptly replenish any "holes" on display boards with backstock to maximize sales opportunities. Coordinate the transfer of inventory between store locations to balance stock levels and better meet local demand.

Qualifications and Skills



Requirements:

Must possess a valid driver's license and have consistent access to a reliable vehicle for travel between store locations.

Experience:

3+ years of progressive experience in inventory management, purchasing, buying, or a similar analytical role. Proven experience in supplier negotiation and vendor relationship management is required. Experience in an optical, fashion, or luxury retail environment is highly preferred.

Skills:

Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable business insights. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Sharp business acumen with a keen eye for market trends and new opportunities. Exceptional organizational skills and an unwavering attention to detail. Proficient with inventory management software and MS Office (with advanced skills in Excel).

A strategic thinker who is also hands-on and detail-oriented. Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently.

Working Conditions



Involves regular travel to multiple store locations within the Greater Ottawa area. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods. May be required to lift and move boxes up to 25 lbs (approx. 11 kg).
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
