The Centre for Independent Living (CILT) is a non-profit, community-based resource organization run by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities. We operate on the philosophy of the Independent Living Movement which affirms the right of persons with disabilities to control their own lives and live independently.
CILT runs the provincial Direct Funding (DF) Program ( ), an innovative program that allows individuals with disabilities to become employers of their own personal care attendants. As a self-managed model of attendant services, participants on the program receive funds that allow them to recruit and hire their own staff to assist with routine activities of daily living.
The DF Program has an existing vacancy for an Interview Coordinator to support the Program by leading eligibility and suitability assessments of potential and active participants across the province. This role brings expertise in current attendant service models in Ontario, along with knowledge of and/or lived experience of disability. Grounded in the Independent Living philosophy, the Interview Coordinator applies a strong understanding of publicly funded health program policies to effectively engage with applicants who have permanent physical disabilities and require attendant services.
Reporting to the Intake Manager, you will:
1. Lead eligibility interviews

  • Act as the lead on DF eligibility interviews and budget increase request meetings representing the administrative side of DF, asking the majority of the questions, and ensuring all interview requirements are met
  • Participate and oversee the administration processes surrounding the interview schedule. Including participation in scheduling considerations, coordinating meeting times with panel members, maintaining clear documentation and timelines, database updates, and developing and communicating interview outcomes.
  • Remain current with program funding guidelines and applicable legislation such as the Ontario Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act and standards
  • Keep abreast of changes in the attendant services sector, especially as it relates to wages, working environment or elements involved in service provision including assessment tools
  • Conduct interviews remotely or, when required, in-person, either in the community or from the applicant's home.
  • Generate formal written correspondence to applicants or Self-Managers regarding eligibility criteria, adherence to the DF Agreement and/or DF policies
2. Participate as an active member of the DF Team
  • Participate in team activities related to the overall smooth operation of the DF program
  • Compile DF Statistics related to new applications, provincial waitlist, and status updates
  • Work closely with the Intake Manager and DF Program Managers on establishing policies and consistent procedures regarding DF intake and interviews
  • Collaborate with fellow Intake team members, DF interview panelists, and other ILRCs
  • Support communication and connection with ILRC staff
  • Act as a point of reference for all CILT and ILRC resource staff on best practices for interview preparation and providing guidance/leadership/training to other staff on completing applications, preparing for interviews
  • Develop material and make presentations to prepare applicants for interviews
  • Report significant or unusual information encountered in day-to-day activities to DF Program Managers and/or Executive Director (e.g., community needs, government cutbacks, emergency situations or situations which may have legal consequences for the agency)
3. Prepare DF applicants with complex needs for eligibility interviews
  • Answer questions about DF interviews that are escalated from CILT and IL Resource Centre (ILRC) staff
  • Assist with the more complex applications, as determined by the Intake Manager, such as those with large budgets, from applicants with newly acquired disabilities, and other complex needs
  • Review applications to confirm completeness and eligibility
  • Keep abreast of the waiting list for CILT's catchment area
  • Update the DF database with applicant/participant information
You bring:
  • Post-secondary education, or equivalent experience, and at least 4-5 years of experience preparing and interviewing applicants for social service programs
  • Strong knowledge of Independent Living Philosophy, attendant services, and disability related issues
  • Understanding of publicly funded health program policies and DF eligibility/suitability criteria
  • Ability to lead structured eligibility interviews
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including formal correspondence to consumers.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policy and exercise sound judgement, tact, and conflict management skills
  • Strong judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills, ability to navigate challenging conversations
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy
  • Capacity to conduct interviews remotely and in-person, including travel to community and home settings.
  • Experience supporting applicants with complex needs (e.g., large budgets, newly acquired disabilities)
  • Success seeing projects through to completion
  • Ability to lead or work co-operatively in a team, as required by the circumstances
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and ability to generate correspondence in a clear and concise manner
  • Knowledge of employer responsibilities such as recruiting and managing staff, employment standards, payroll, and budgeting
  • Bilingualism (English/French) an asset
Good to know:
  • 35 hours per week
  • Hiring range: $60-67K
  • Group benefits after 3 months
  • Hybrid work from CILT's office - approximately once a week or semi-monthly - and from home
  • Some travel required to prepare applicants for interviews in person (e.g., in their homes, rehabilitation centres, hospitals, etc.) and make presentations
  • Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable vulnerable sector check
  • Applications (cover letter and resume) will be processed on a rolling basis until March 8, 2026
