Position Description

The Interprofessional Education Specialist (IES) is a leadership role dedicated to advancing paediatric practice by shaping and delivering interprofessional education that strengthens clinical expertise, professional growth, and leadership capacity. Grounded in a commitment to lifelong learning, the IES leads the full cycle of education, from assessment and planning to implementation and evaluation, supporting staff and learners as they progress from novice to expert. Working in alignment with the organization's strategic directions, the IES translates vision into practice by developing and leading programs, teaching in both classroom and clinical settings, and advancing initiatives that promote continuous quality improvement, staff and patient safety, and interprofessional collaboration. Through consultation, innovation, scholarship, and strategic projects, the IES fosters a culture of excellence in education and care, ultimately enhancing outcomes for patients and families.
This role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Interprofessional Education, and the Associate Chief of Nursing & Interprofessional Education. This role will have matrix accountability to Dr. Hernan Gonorazky.
The Interprofessional Education Specialist (IES) will play a key role in preparing SickKids for the future of care through the safe and effective integration of gene mediated and precision therapies. Working within the Genetic Medicines Program, part of the hospital's Advanced Therapeutics and Precision Child Health strategies, the IES will lead education and readiness initiatives that enable interprofessional teams to deliver individualized, innovative care for children receiving genetic therapies.
Gene therapy is a rapidly advancing field that requires seamless collaboration across clinical, research, and operational disciplines. The IES will connect specialists from all areas of care, including clinical services, nursing, pharmacy, allied health, ethics, and research, to ensure teams are prepared to recognize, manage, and prevent potential complications while promoting excellence, safety, and equity in patient care.
The successful candidate will be supported in developing a strong foundation in genetics and gene therapy, gaining insight into the scientific, clinical, and ethical complexities of this emerging field. Although this is a coordination and leadership role, it also offers significant opportunities for learning and professional growth.
Here's What You'll Get to Do:
Lead and coordinate education, training, and competency development for staff involved in gene therapy initiation, administration, and monitoring.
Support interdisciplinary teams in developing and implementing best practices and clinical guidelines.
Facilitate knowledge translation and promote evidence-based, safe, and ethical care.
Lead quality improvement and change management initiatives related to genetic and cellular therapeutics.
Champion collaboration and inclusion across programs and disciplines.
Here's What You'll Need:
Essential Requirements
Professional Registration in good standing with relevant regulatory body.
Master's Degree or other advanced degree in a relevant healthcare field (e.g., Nursing, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Public Health, etc.).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in pediatric healthcare.
Demonstrated professional leadership and collaboration skills.
Self-directed and motivated, embrace new challenges, innovative and creative.
Knowledge related to process improvement, change management, patient safety, program planning/implementation and evaluation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex clinical information in a clear, comprehensive and accessible manner.
