What to Expect


Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around August 2025 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December 2025) or into Spring 2026 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.


International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team


Tesla is looking to hire a Mechanical Design Intern to design and deploy specialized development equipment for our cutting-edge vehicle battery products. This position will help drive technological advancement in this area while working closely with cross-functional teams. Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenges with electric vehicles - battery cost and performance. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects.

What You'll Do

Apply technical knowledge to innovate, design and develop processes, tooling, assembly fixtures and procedures Ability to create and manipulate mechanical drawings and bills of materials Be involved in supporting R&D Provide mechanical engineering support to fabrication and assembly technicians and project management personnel Facilitate and mediate communication between various departments, vendors, and customers

What You'll Bring

Currently pursing a degree in a relevant engineering program 3D CAD experience using Solidworks required Experience with AutoCAD an asset Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills You must be self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment Professional and positive communication skills. Previous internship and/or project experience is a plus Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
