International Programs Specialist
Summary:
The international programs specialist provides operational and strategic support for targeted international programs that advance the university's international strategy and internationally recognized sustainable development goals. With a primary focus on the Horizon Europe funding program and the People Around the World (PAW) International Congress, this position supports faculty, staff, and institutional partners in international research, partnerships, and events.
The role cultivates collaborations with European partners, guides researchers through complex funding application processes, and connects teams with appropriate funding calls and international partners. The specialist builds strong internal and external relationships and contributes to capacity building through workshops, delegation visits, and collaborative working groups.
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plans, coordinates, and delivers targeted international programs and large-scale-scale events, providing comprehensive administrative, financial, logistical, and program planning
• Supports all aspects of assigned events, including scientific committee coordination, program development, student and postdoctoral poster competitions, communications, and engagement with international partners in collaboration with unit leadership
• Strengthens and strategically cultivates collaborations with European partners benefiting from related research funding
• Supports researchers and research support staff in relevant funding program proposal development in collaboration with international research and partnership specialists
• Provides strategic matchmaking support to connect researchers with relevant funding program calls and appropriate international partners
• Supports capacity building through engagement with external organizations, delegations, and European institutional partners
• Develops and supports a working group involving legal, finance, communications, and research stakeholders for relevant funding programs
• Guides researchers through complex application processes and liaises with national contacts to improve proposal success rates
• Facilitates and delivers targeted workshops to support European partnerships in signature research areas
• Assists with recognition activities for successful proposals and applicants in collaboration with internal teams
• Maintains and updates funding program resources, including learning modules, and develops associated toolkits
• Supports the implementation of internationalization awards and other associated programs
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Provides support for data entry and maintenance in the international agreements management system (MoveOn)
• Provides backup support for the office's general inbox and website updates
• Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment
• Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion
• Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement
• Undertakes special projects and performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field
• Minimum of two years of relevant experience in international relations, research administration, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of internationalization, international research programs, international partnerships, and international event management
• Experience with proposal development, interdisciplinary research, international granting agencies, and large-scale project and event management is preferred
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including cross-cultural-cultural communication
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong analytical, and problem solving-solving skills
• Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and sound judgment
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and systems such as MoveOn
• Fluency in additional languages is an asset
