Job Overview


The Internal Education Coordinator is a new position and performs duties for the following three functions within the Education Department:

- provides support services to Pauquachin First Nation students enrolled in post secondary education, those preparing to attend, and also works closely with the post secondary institutions. The Coordinator ensures that PFN members are given an opportunity to receive post secondary funding.

- creates a fun and engaging spring/summer camp program for the youth of the community ages 7 - 18, and provides staff with the tools and support they require to provide a safe and positive experience for camp participants.

- develops, coordinates, and delivers after school learning and recreational activities designed for students to enhance their potential and skills in a safe and welcoming environment. The Coordinator strives to empower the students and create strategies to keep a productive and healthy environment for them.

Duties

Assists students to locate career information;

Responds to inquiries on all aspects of post secondary and advanced education;

Receives and processes applications for various universities, colleges, technical institutions, and all post-graduate education;

Processes tuition invoices for accepted students;

Establishes accounts for required textbooks/supplies;

Makes the necessary arrangements for students to take vocational interests and aptitude tests;

Advocates on behalf of post secondary students to ensure access to relevant, quality education;

Administers the Post-Secondary Student Support program and the University and College Entrance Preparation Program;

Submits an annual proposal to Indigenous Service Canada pool funding for post secondary students;

Administers and monitors the post secondary education budget for tuition, mandatory fees, books, and student living allowance;

Identifies available funding and submits proposals/grant applications to various funders;

Provides periodic seminars to potential post secondary students on education opportunities, financial and other student services, and to respond to questions they may have on applying for post secondary.

Plans, develops, facilitates and supervises recreational, social and educational camp programs that support the positive cultural identity and personal wellness for the youth of the community;

Leads the day-to-day operations of the Camp including supervision of youth, maintaining the program space and coordinating with Youth Leaders

Assumes responsibility of participant care and safety by being available to assist in higher needs situations;

Mentors and supports the Youth Leaders to assist with the execution of the camp programs;

Assists with Youth Leader recruitment, schedules and executes Youth Leader orientation;

Checks in with staff on a daily basis and discusses their performance and concerns with the Associate Director.

Ensures sports, recreation and technology supplies and equipment are properly used and maintained;

Establishes effective relationships with children and youth through positive role modeling;

Adheres to the program budget established by the Associate Director;

Prepares and submits reports such as participant tracking and overall effectiveness of the programs to the Associate Director.

Researches, plans, develops and implements curriculum in education programs;

Facilitates scheduled afterschool programs within the community including preparation of program activities and set-up/clean-up;

Supervises children in program and engages with on-site staff to manage any behavior issues;

Develops flyers and social media content to promote the after school program;

Instructs, leads, and interacts with children during the program;

Ensures all equipment and supplies are in good, safe condition and are used appropriately;

Monitors children's participation, and provides coaching, guidance and encouragement where necessary;

Handles incidents, problems and emergencies professionally and with discretion; report all incidents and parent concerns to the Director;

Maintains open communication with parents, provides feedback and answers inquiries as requested and/or required.

Requirements



Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma);
Post secondary education in Educational Support, Career Development Planning, or related field an asset;

Minimum of two years' experience in children and youth education; or

An equivalent combination of education and experience;

Experience coordinating, implementing, and supervising children and youth recreational and/or outdoor programming;

Experience leading and interacting with groups of children and youth, within a range of ages;

Experience with hands-on, interactive curriculum development and delivery methods;

Experience motivating, coaching and mentoring clients with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds;

Experience developing and negotiating contracts;

Experience preparing funding proposals, working with third party funders and associated programs and projects;

Experience administering programs, managing budgets and planning and coordinating events ;

Experience developing and preparing written reports, spreadsheets and presentations;

Experience maintaining records, filing and correspondence;

Valid First Aid Certificate or willing to certify

Valid Class 5 driver's license, a clean driver's abstract and reliable vehicle is required;

Clean criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector required;
